Pros
co-workers that have not drank the KoolAid
Cons
Where to begin.. very, very unprofessional leadership. Definitely, "family run" and not in a good way. Extreme micromanagement, lack of planning with poor execution and then crisis management mode kicks in while throwing others under the bus... I have never seen employees hired and fired so quickly and without merit. I know of one employee who received a very good year end eval, (I don't think anyone gets an excellent eval unless the last name is Cotton) hefty bonus and then fired a month later, because one of the C-level family members decided they no longer liked that employee because of an offhand remark made by one of the favorite employees.. the remark being pure gossip and completely false..and when the termed employee spoke the truth, denied the accusation, even had witnesses to affirm the facts, it didn't matter.. bye bye.. no more paycheck, have a nice life.. sadly, this occurs all too frequently. Young, inexperienced, naive newbies are promoted to positions for which they are not qualified, which of course causes resentment among those with experience and leadership skills. The inexperienced leaders crash and burn unless they succumb to every nonsensical whim of the "family" I have never experienced such a vile culture in my entire career, which spans decades. This company reminds me of Game of Thrones with several family members who could effectively portray "Joffrey" in real life. The bad reviews on Glassdoor and other sites are true. I can vouch for them as I have seen it not only in Detroit, but in the other offices as well. If you need a paycheck and can stay under the radar, you may survive. If you stick your neck out, and are not a college aged long haired, short skirted, beauty queen, I would bet the bank that the revolving door will smack you in the behind. But, to all those fresh college grads or new to the corporate world folks, please know that MHP is not the norm. There are far, far better places to work and once you leave, you will quickly realize that. If you do start there, get termed and feel demoralized and degraded, stop, hold your head high and take it as a lesson learned and embark on your new journey with a company with ethics. It will take you a nano-second to see the difference! And, lastly, Charles Manson had a 'family', the Sopranos were a 'family'...... and yes, the Cottons are very much a 'family'.
