Good company but many terrible teams in India - Engineer 3 MongoDB Employee Review

Pros

1. Employee benefits are decent but fall short, with subpar gym perks limited to a basic Cult corporate package and no inclusion of NPS or other valuable additions. 2. Every department except TechOps enjoys a yearly offsite, leaving TechOps unfairly excluded from this company-wide perk. Join the company if you are not joining TechOps.

Cons

1. Many folks in the leadership left the organization in last 1 year. 2. The influx of new senior leaders—specifically CIOs and VPs, all Indian immigrants to the U.S.—has dismantled the company’s collaborative culture, replacing it with cliquish, hierarchical practices that alienate long-standing employees. 3. TechOps blew $100,000 + on fake Agile training by the leader’s friend, with no certifications gained. 4. TechOps is a mess, with no offsites while other departments jet to Europe and Australia. 5. MongoDB’s $200 learning budget is a pathetic joke, locked behind a year of service and repayment clauses. 6. No learning support—no Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, or any subscriptions whatsoever.

Pros

Supportive people, a strong culture, and meaningful flexibility are the biggest positives. I've had the chance to work with thoughtful colleagues who care about doing good work and helping each other succeed. There are solid opportunities to learn, build relationships across teams, and contribute in a way that feels impactful.

Cons

Workloads can be heavy during busy periods, and priorities can sometimes shift quickly (which is expected in growing companies)

Pros

Remote work and decent pay

Cons

Really depends on the team, however middle management needs to be addressed. Toxic culture that truly depends on who your manager is. Silent layoffs are made to seem "Performance-based", then job is re-posted at a reduced range. Proceed with caution and understand that HR is not your friend.
