Pros
- Unlike Nordstrom Full-Line Stores, there is no commission at the Rack, which is good since it breaks down the whole competitive, catty culture and you work as a team to achieve the goals of the store - Overall great company culture - Good company if you are studying, incredibly flexible with schedules (beware of black out periods such as Christmas) - Coworkers become some of your bestfriends - Management wanted you to succeed - Open door policy - Numerous opportunities across the company for movement especially if you live in the Seattle area where the corporate office is. Transfers to other stores are incredibly easy if there are openings - 20% discount year round, however there were times when the discount would go up (around Christmas).
Cons
- I went from working at the full-line Nordstrom store to Nordstrom Rack, and I do feel like Rack employees do get treated differently even though there is this massive push for Rack stores - The push for Nordstrom Rewards Cards in such a fast-paced environment is a bit ridiculous, FOCUS ON THE OVERALL SALES. - Although, my experiences with management have been relatively good, I have seen fellow coworkers being treated differently and reprimanded in front of customers and coworkers. Kissing up to management will lead you into the Future Nordstrom Leaders program or any sort of progression in the company. - Cliques DO develop within management, and I have heard comments from management about specific employees in public areas which is incredibly unprofessional. In addition to this, management will typically lock themselves away in their offices unless there is a massive customer issue. I have also witnessed managers coming in severely hungover, affecting their ability to work which filtered into more responsibilities for us employees on the floor. - The pay working at the Rack is absolute rubbish
