Cons

DO NOT WORK HERE when I applied here I was happy because I actually had a good manager, and a good team.. but that also changed after a year of working here. I’ve worked here for almost 5 years. • If you work pet care you are not just pet care you will be register, basket grabber, in-store pick up. Basically a slave to every single task, on top of the care of animals. •There’s a heavy focus on treat activation that gets hammered on you constantly! Along with the chance and lucky’s that come out before halloween. It will drive you and customers insane with asking for donations. •The care of the animals is an after thought with this company. you’ll constantly have grown adults throwing fits and won’t take “No” as an answer for the sale of a live animals. handling animals is maybe like 20% of the pet care job. • No customers do research before buying animals, it’s a very rare occasion. so it’s your job to educate them like children. (They won’t take your advice anyways) • You’ll also be in charge of and taking care of sick animals. • This is a company that wants to be on par with large corporations. it’s not you’ll be worked on a bare bones staff with bad hours.

Pros

The company pushes for more and more from the bottom level employees without better pay. I worked there before the restructuring and; not much can make me cry, but working here sure did, even back then. I can’t imagine how anxiety inducing it must be to work there now. Animal welfare is a complete non-concern. The only thing that’s pushed is sell, sell, sell. It’s borderline dystopian. Bad management seems to be a common issue, not only from my experience, but many others’ as well. I worked until I was an exhausted sweaty mess to make sure everything in pet care or, when I groomed, the salon, was cleaned to perfection as expected of me (and I reiterate: “me,” because these standards were not expected of my co-workers, just me) and overall felt very unseen. The only times I did feel “seen,” was when mistakes were made. Work was treated like boot camp. A co-worker that was subtley targeting/bullying me, and even started rumors accusing me of racist remarks(!!!), was promoted and anything I reported was downplayed because they were friends with the assistant manager. Working here was an overall traumatizing experience.

Cons

Employees are expected to be work-robots
