Pros

Strong global brand and market position; broad specialty and polymer portfolio. World-class R&D footprint (20+ T&I centres, 2,000+ researchers) and real history of external innovation recognition. Technically challenging problems across multiple end-markets; scope to work end-to-end from lab to customer. Competitive compensation and benefits with generally positive overall employee ratings, especially in some R&D hubs. Broad cross-functional and international exposure that builds strong “business plus science” career capital.

Cons

Current cycle is harsh: losses, revenue declines, and significant restructuring/impairment charges driven by weak demand and overcapacity. Asset closures (e.g., Teesside Olefins 6) demonstrate that geographies and plants can be aggressively rationalized. Mid- and long-term R&D work is at real risk of de-scoping or cancellation; emphasis has shifted toward short-term ROI and cost-out. Culture and management quality are uneven; some teams are highly supportive, others are reported as political or even hostile in layoff reviews. Job security for senior technical roles depends heavily on alignment with current strategic themes and local asset competitiveness, not only on personal performance. Lack of vision and leadership.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good Coworkers.

Cons

Age of facility, lack of maintenance funding. Operations and Maintenance are pressured to do "more with less" constantly. Too slow to fill job openings, rely on overtime to make up for lack of headcount.
