Pros

Great place to learn selling skills, and learn about the horrors of straight commission at ground zero. If ur selling in one of the commission selling departments, appliances, or vacuums...you're gonna be hustling and it'll be a good experience learning how to fast talk and angle shoot customers into buying products they don't need. Work here a few months and then Home Depot or Loews will take you. They pay more, no commission bs, u get your schedule more in advance sears u don't get ur schedule for sunday UNTIL SATURDAY NIGHT! 1 DAY IN ADVANCE!

Cons

Commission is a b-i-t-c-h. They say youll make $30/hr when they hire u. Don't believe the lies. More like $10/hr. Some people in washers dryers make $20hr, but they are few and far between. On weekends, the busiest sales days, they schedule EVERYONE to work. So you have 8 sellers on the floor and 1 customer. You end up fighting over customers and it creates hostility. I worked at Sears for 2 years, with 20-30 year vets. Back in the day this job was a profession, now they schedule 4-8 sellers at a time, instead of 2 like in the old days, to drive salaries down and drive out the old timers. They are copying best buys $8/hr high school kid seller strategy. Take this job as a 1st job or a temp job. Don't expect to stay long. The stress of working 8 hours and making $0 will kill your motivation. On your days off your customers will return merchandise and it will come out of your pay. The amount of infighting amongst employees is absurd. I worked at 2 locations.

Pros

Good team and good compensation

Cons

The contract is only for 30 days, so it needs to be renewed every month, and we always lose access during the process. This creates some uncertainty for us.
