      Pros

      The people here are so supportive and want to see you succeed. I had a fantastic mentor and I always had the resources I needed. The design culture at Shopify is amazing, I loved working for a company that seriously valued UX. The food is also delicious!!

      Cons

      Ottawa is not my favorite. Shopify is definitely the most fun place in that city. Wish they would open up offices in the US or abroad!

      Pros

      Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

      Cons

      Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

      Pros

      Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

      Cons

      Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
