Pros

Decent pay, solid bonuses and annual pay increases, 401k AND Pension, USED to be a good company.

Cons

Everything else. Literally. Everything that has happened in the company in the past year and a half has been a direct and deliberate middle finger from senior upper management to those on the front lines. Immediate management is great but they are worthless and powerless in the top heavy structure. I'm convinced that State Farm hired as many upper management people as they could based on that qualifications of being extremely old, and as minimal experience in the real world as possible. State farm is throwing away every competitive advantage yhey once had with these changes. Employees have had more work than is humanly even close to possible shoved down their throats, backed by mandatory overtime (or you won't get a good yearly rating), and there is absolutely ZERO work/life balance. And the worst part is management doesn't even care. They say they do, but they just blow smoke up yours to talk the political talk - but anyone can see right through it. Not only does management not care about employees, they're so innept they don't even realize that unhappy employees don't treat customers well, either. News flash! Don't screw with off those who are paying your bills! 3 years ago a relatively smooth running claims operation existed, then these fools decided to reinvent the wheel to the ultimate detriment of the company - THOSE ON THE FRONT LINES NEED TO BE MAKING THE DECISIONS, NOT SOME GUY IN CORPORATE HALFWAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY WHO DOESNT EVEN UNDERSTAND WHATS ACTUALLY GOING ON. Just look at the ratings history here on Glassdoor or annual satisfaction surveys and you'll see how they're suffering. To top it all off they're too prideful to admit they were wrong. If you have state farm, you should seriously switch before you endure the claims process, and for you're own good look elsewhere as SF doesn't deserve any true talent with the way they treat people.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
