Pros
very stable company with technology and business savvy top management; good technology that changes rapidly; interesting work and problems to solve; working on software tools that are used by most chip designers can be very satisfying. generous vacation time.
Cons
industry is shrinking; work too specialized and experience gained at Synopsys may not be that relevant to other software jobs. in some groups management is too hierarchical with goals strictly mandated from top to bottom. not much cooperation between groups. working on low visibility project means no recognition while working on high visibility project means too much stress. currently over-reacting to the recession by cutting on supplies like notebooks, pens, etc.
