Target was a good company to work for, but is shifting to a cost focus and will soon be a mini-Walmart. - Executive Team Leader Target Employee Review

Pros

They have great training programs, which are under-utilized, cutting edge inventory systems, and decent compensation packages once you are in management.

Cons

There are many drawbacks, but I will share the top complaints I heard while there. Young attractive females are the only ones who get promoted - while not entirely true, there is much evidence to support this opinion. They don't schedule enough time for training - right on the mark as even though the store may designate someone as training in the payroll system, they are often pulled away to work on tasks unrelated to development. Finally my complaint would be someone else's pro from their review. Executive Team Leaders are hired straight from college and put in charge of large diverse teams of employees, most of whom are working to support their families on small wages. I would estimate 75% of these college grads have no clue how to effectively communicate with employees and often times create an unpleasant work environment until they quit or get fired.
