Pros

You’re guaranteed 25 hours paid weekly even if you don’t work that many hours in a week (obviously that is only if you attend work every day and only leave when work is done, not when you want to). It’s not too physical of a job because you’re not allowed to do any union work like lifting boxes, loading containers, mopping, etc. You just make sure things are visually loaded how they should be, everything gets out on time, paperwork is printed and you or another sup. does the final weight check, and then a bunch of computer stuff end of day. There’s not cameras all over the office so you don’t feel constantly watched which is nice. I actually feel like my location is pretty cool on a feminism scale. There’s a lot of women in leadership here and they hire a lot of women to leadership which I think is just phenomenal because you don’t really see that at most companies. 9 of the 16 leaders on my shift are women. Pretty awesome.

Cons

Because union workers are allowed 3 hours of work, you don’t get to go home early really ever. For example sort might end at 8, you finish up your paperwork by 8:30 - well, now you have to sit and wait for 9:30 when the 18 or so people who wanted to stay, leave. Then you can finish up paperwork which only takes another couple of minutes, turn it in, and can dip. Another con - days off don’t start accruing for a while (like 6 months I think?) so you have to come in every day and you can’t be late because they track that too (even if it’s only by five minutes). No sick days either.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
