Pros

You develop a close working relationship with some of your coworkers.

Cons

I was a former employee of the SI and got laid off due to cutbacks. The company did absolute nothing to place me on another existing contract, or furlough me until something else came open. During my employment, I continued to apply to positions with the SI., only to receive the "canned" email from the "talent recruiters", in which they tell me I am not qualified. EXCUSE ME! I have more than 24 years experience and a Masters degree in IT! Oh and BTW most of these "talent recruiters" only have a HS diploma. Interesting! Or, if one of them did call me back, they would ask for my salary requirement. I would tell them my expectation which was completely in reason, only to be told "oh that is too much money....this position only pays 100K." To which I would reply, "then you don't want a Sr. Systems Engineer, you want a college intern." I found a company that recognizes talent and is willing to pay for it, I couldn't be happier. Long story short, this SI is poorly managed company with short vision. Good for interns...maybe. Good for season experience employees, NOT.

Pros

Good people, but this is undoubtedly dependent upon one's work location. Employees are conscientious and are totally dedicated to the customer and the mission. Lower level management gives employees room to manage work hours, duties, etc., as long as the customer is happy. Work environment is largely at customer sites so again, variable and dependent on the individual situation. Vencore used to be an exceptional company that really supported its employees. It came from one of the best divisions of Lockheed Martin - even senior management took care of its people and the people were appreciative. Then the divestment came and, soon after, the new CEO. The one good thing is that paid time off has been increased.

Cons

We used to be different - now Vencore is just another Beltway Bandit to work for. Nothing special. No better than any other US Gov't contractor. Divested from Lockheed, the firm was bought by a private equity firm. Seems they are only interested in realizing the greatest profit when they finally sell off the company . Benefits have been cut. Senior management froze the pension 2 years ago but created a new, less costly version with much lower compensation. Still, it was something that few if any companies offer. This year - Surprise! It's gone! "So sorry. Wasn't fair to new employees." If you want a job, take their offer. You probably won't stay long. At this point the best thing to do is hop around to other companies. There's no reason to stay at Vencore! There's just no benefit to staying at Vencore anymore.
