Pros

-Benefits -Transparency -Leadership -Competitive vision -Marketing Zillow has been a great place to work. The transparency is encouraging and I like the fact we are "playing to win" - not just compete, but to win.

Cons

-HR (as the company gets bigger and HR being in a different location, it's tough to get answers in a timely fashion) -Seattle based - this is great for those in Seattle, but employees in other cities constantly get to hear about the Zillow culture but are still trying to figure out how to change the culture at their location.

Thank you for the review and the feedback. Regarding HR issues being tricky in remote offices, please always feel free to escalate things to Kathleen quickly. She can triage emails about HR questions, so just email her (or me) and we will get it sorted out asap. Regarding having more speakers in the non-Seattle offices, I am really struggling with that. I know it would be great for the non-Seattle office that is hosting, but I worry that people in Seattle won't show up in the kitchen for the Speaker if he/she is just on screen and not in person. There are so many great speakers outside of Seattle though, so we probably should just start doing it. I'm definitely considering it, but I'm really divided on it.

Pros

Generally the people I work with are great. They are supportive, creative, and work well as a team. Work-life balance is good, although some teams have more on-call than others.

Cons

- Senior leadership has determined that inflation need not be a factor when calculating raises. - Also, we're having record profitability! But also money is very tight and we all need to tighten our belts. - Our stock is down 50% this year, but you all need to suck it up, even though stock is a huge part of pay. - We don't care that you are getting a 30% effective pay cut this year. - Performance ratings are calculated on vibes before reviews are actually written. - We've started outsourcing heavily to Mexico and India. - "We need to raise the bar" ("Please work harder for the same pay") - Health benefits have eroded for several years. - Other benefits have never been adjusted for inflation. - AI is becoming like a cult. We've actually been told that the dream is to never open a code editor again, despite the technology not being remotely ready for that (and with no proof that it is less expensive or saves time).
