Pros

- Zillow has a great brand - One of the few large companies that are still fully remote - There are ICs that are great to work with - Compensation and benefits are good

Cons

- Many of the negative parts of Amazon culture are taking over at Zillow, most likely as a result of many former Amazon employees now working there - "Toxic positivity": People you work with are very nice to you but don't fully support you unless it benefits them. They are more inclined to share negative opinions of you with your manager than to offer constructive criticism directly. - Leadership is frequently changing priorities and strategies which makes it difficult to show any real success with initiatives you're working on - A focus on heavy documentation slows everyone down and greatly increases the workload. The number of meetings required to finalize each document is also excessive. - Very risk averse. There is a lot of talk from leadership about taking "big swings", but in reality most of the leaders in the company are worried about taking any kind of risk even when there is a potentially big reward. - Unless you know people on the team you're joining, you are rolling the dice on what your work experience will be like. The quality of the experience can vary greatly from team to team. From what I've heard from coworkers it is best to stay away from any team in the Zillow Home Loans org.

Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
