I have been working at Foremost Insurance full-time

    Pros

Great colleagues, encourages community involvement, flexible schedule, beautiful campus to walk and get outdoors during break.

    Cons

Communication issues, politics and favoritism, no room to grow, old office furniture and facility, lack of diversity (and not just ethnic diversity, but perspective, gender, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Communicate clearly without ultimatums, be open to feedback, give other people a chance at projects, re-organize departments that are under-performing, try to be genuine.

I worked at Foremost Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and flexible schedule. There was a lot of freedom as a sales representative. The agents were not easy to convince due to high rates but all were friendly and seemed to be willling to give the products a try. Foremost had an amazing onboarding process. Top notch training!

    Cons

Company needed to restructure the sales territory, there were not enough agents to visit for outside sales. Traveling 50% of the time really meant traveling 80% of the time.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to restructure the sales territory, there were not enough agents to visit for outside sales.

    Pros

    Cons

Dreary office building with unfortunate food options

    Advice to Management

More one on one time with employees and supervisors

I have been working at Foremost Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Solid base pay and bonus potential as well as competitive 401k. PTO allotment is quite generous as well. There is also some opportunity to travel to your assigned territory.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between sales staff and management when it comes to advancing within the department. The fact that a clear career advancement path is lacking makes it difficult to have confidence in making this a lasting career.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the hard work and accomplishments of your talented staff. This will help to increase employee satisfaction and retention.

I worked at Foremost Insurance full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, opportunities to work from home part of the time

    Cons

Parent company Farmers Insurance strives to keep a firm hierarchy in terms of leadership and executives. This competitive culture it fosters makes for less teamwork and overall more 'back stabbing.' While not every manager and supervisor operates this way, the general Farmers insurance attitude is trickling into Foremost. Foremost also houses a lot of baby boomers who refuse to adapt to modern business practices, which can be an issue with all of the changes that Farmers has implemented.

    Advice to Management

Do not be afraid to evolve and adapt if you have been with the company for a long time. But try not to fall into the hierarchy trap, as the younger generations do not put up with the entitled attitudes of the older generations and are not afraid to jump ship for something better if they are not being treated with respect,

Great company to work for. You are well-trained for your position. Great benefits.

    Pros

"Dress for your day" mentality. Nice compensation plan. Not the best, not the worst. Fun environment and great people.

    Cons

Flat structure. Meaning there aren't a lot of levels between management and bottom of the pole. Tough to move up.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of linking extra effort and higher skill levels with the incentive plan. Using a trend isn't working.

    Pros

Great vacation time and very good insurance

    Cons

Very particular in procedures and large departments so hard to take pto when you want

    Advice to Management

Don't micro manage. We are grown adults and not in high school. Think about long term before you respond to problems or upgrades.

I worked at Foremost Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They will work with you and give you a chance, but you also need to make an effort and pull your weight.

    Cons

Not much growth if you're a claims adjuster out on the field. If you live in the Grand Rapids area, then maybe the sky is the limit.

    Advice to Management

Tell your adjusters to be clear and precise when sending financial reports to the claims processors.
