I worked at GuideIT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay and good co-workers

    Cons

They should advertise themselves as a staff aug company. You will be let go the moment your project ends. Not a good company if you are looking for a career.

    I worked at GuideIT full-time

    Pros

Exposure and insight into other businesses
    Food on Tuesdays and Thursdays
    Technically above market for position

    Cons

Disconnect between upper management and "little people"
Contract IT support doesn't make too much sense before sites realize they should have it all in-house, so all business is temporary.
Ironically seems that management doesn't like change too much, discouraging too much advancement in the ranks

    Advice to Management

Make the deal sweeter for your employees from the start with more attractive pay scales if possible and show your faces around the office regularly... some people can't come to you for camaraderie as they have to be stuck to their desk to answer client calls. Prevent disconnect as much as possible as it makes lower level employee's crave a different company faster. Plus leveraged services makes the money.

I worked at GuideIT full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    None I can think of.

    Cons

People I worked with where rude,
picked on people and lacked communication skills with their employees. HR is hard to get a hold of. Management didn't understand what was involved in daily tasks and SLA's where unrealistic. Violated security compliance for client. Cared more about closing tickets than actually resolving them

    Advice to Management

Put people on contracts that actually have a technical background and not just project management skills. Learn to communicate positively and understand what's involved in daily operations.

I worked at GuideIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was a fun place to work with many opportunities a couple of years ago, but that has all changed.

    Cons

Employees no longer matter. It is all about the bottom line and "executives", even though it's still a small (100 +-) company. It stopped growing a couple of years ago.

    Advice to Management

Try reading the values card and actually managing the company based on those values.

I have been working at GuideIT full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I learn something technical daily, even if the end customers I report to every day don't know this.
    Pay is competitive.
Flexible work hours (depending on needs of client).
    Location requirements flexible.
Management and some co-workers have a wealth of experience (much of management worked for EDS or Perot Systems at some point) .
There is much potential and expectations for this company to grow, due to past successes of previous Perot companies, and existing relationships between GuideIT mgmt and potential customers.

    Cons

GuideIT does not attract employees with expensive perks and benefits. Instead, they pay competitive rates, and let the company's potential future attract and keep people who are interested in being a part of the growth. It (accurately) feels more like working for a shrewd, wealthy family than a startup tech company.
    Specifics:
    Bring Your Own Laptop
Bring Your own Cellphone ($50 reimbursement per month on your paycheck).
No expense card to float travel expenses until reimbursed.
Health Care Insurance portion covered by employer relatively low.
No formal performance review system in place yet
No career paths established (formal or otherwise).
No plan to help or guide those in earlier phases of career with personal or technical growth.
"Career opportunities" have potential, but due to small size, fewer current opportunities than larger companies.

    Advice to Management

Keep balancing costs smartly, but I assume that GuideIT's goal is eventually "world-class." Recruiters can only sell the ground floor opportunity until it gets off the ground. Then, some world-class benefits/perks are needed to get & keep good people.
Develop a feedback system sooner than later in case some employees needs are not being met. An annual employee survey helps with strategy, but tactical decisions can require something more frequent or even ad hoc.
Provide company AmEx to any whose position requires travel.
Make sure manager performance feedback from direct reports (done intelligently), is part of the performance review "formula," for everyone's sake.

    I worked at GuideIT full-time

    Pros

The GuideIT Homies were great to work with. "The A Team was the Best", along with the Team lead, she always had your back.

    Cons

Management was offsite and didn't communicate with the team about the contract status. Managements contract run time projection was longer than it actually lasted. Start looking for new work two or three months before the contract ends.

    Advice to Management

Be fair and true to your out of state / offsite employees or you will end up with crap the next time you need some!
