I worked at HTC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Cool technology to work on
    - Lots of free drinks and snacks

    Cons

    - CEO needs to approve contracts leading to missed dates because she can't manage it all
    - CEO seemingly has no vision for the company and there is never any communication from the executive team.
    - HTC is not a customer-centric company
    - Taiwan controls everything and doesn't understand how business is done in the west leading to tons of misfires and missed opportunities
    - Nepotism
    - In Taiwan, a lot of the wrong people are promoted.
    - Very little accountability.
    - Lots of working around the clock because of the timezone difference between the US, Taiwan and other offices in other countries
    - A lot of bickering between global
    - US is a very cliquey culture

    Advice to Management

The CEO needs to actually have a vision and start listening to customers. She's an engineer though and I doubt that will happen.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at HTC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great for entrepreneurs that can manage themselves and move to making real progress in environments that have little guidance.

    Cons

"Companies are built on great people and killed by politics." There are only a couple of groups within the company that are actually making meaningful changes to turn the company around. The reason for this is because those who want to change the company are young and ambitious while those in middle and upper management are old and stuck in their ways.

Thus the C-level is constantly trying to manage resources between the two groups.

    Advice to Management

    Stick to measuring what matters.
Comprehensive OKR's for groups and individual performance reviews.
Invest in your employees, especially the ones that perform well.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at HTC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Generally open and transparent leadership
    - Flexible work environment

    Cons

    - Total lack of realistic company vision or strategy
    - CEO's leadership style (or lack thereof) is chaotic and self-defeating
    - Smartphone business is dying (if not already dead)
    - VR business is slowing, and all company eggs have been placed in this basket
    - US HR is worthless for providing real growth opportunities
    - Company is losing money, so bonus opportunities are few to none
    - Product development doesn't listen to customer needs, is driven by R&D
    - Marketing is uninspired and works on shoestring budgets
    - Employee morale is low and defeated: this is a dying company and everyone knows it

    Advice to Management

Listen to your customers, the few that are left! All the complaints, all the desperate pleas -- this should be the basis for a customer-oriented strategy that HTC has always lacked. Stop chasing the "new, shiny" thing -- figure out your strategy and stick to it!

I worked at HTC part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was a good experience to work with people across the world.

    Cons

While bosses are lenient on where you do your work (on-site or remote), you are sometimes obligated to join a call with oversea office. That is, evening or dawn (US time).

    I worked at HTC full-time

    Pros

Great company benefits including good cafeteria, gym and other amenities. Company still has lots of cash.

    Cons

Highly political environment. The best and brightest have left long ago. Low moral due to declining sales. Company is burning through cash at an extreme rate.

    Advice to Management

Sell the whole company. Clearly the VR unit will not be able to sustain the entire company.

Although there is a magnificent scenery you might get board after six hrs of work.

I worked at HTC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, Decent Pay, Plenty of snacks and most of the people are easy to work with. Like any company there will be challenging personalities.

    Cons

Forgot how to complete in a brutal market for mobile phones when the competition arrived. This has been answered not by innovation, but mass layoffs which are continuing as I write this Rolling the dice on VR which is a fine product but market penetration is low due to the high entry cost to participate.

    Advice to Management

What management? Most of them either were laid off or left a sinking ship.
