I worked at Hallmark Data Systems full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with. Friendly, loyal staff with lots of employees staying 10-20 years. Good benefits under Ebsco ownership.

    Cons

Technology shortcomings and upper management decisions caused downward spiral and eventual sale. Many years with no salary increases.

I worked at Hallmark Data Systems full-time

    Pros

Well, they used to be a family owned company, and cared about they're employees. But then they sold out to another company, and things went downhill from there.

    Cons

The axe swings freely there, even if you're a great employee. They only care about how they can profit from any given situation.

    Pros

Great group of people, backed by EBSCO Industries

    Cons

Technology ran off the rails a bit and EBSCO sold Hallmark

    Pros

There are some bright, dedicated people who are smart and work really hard. Feedback from clients is usually they can tell their rep really cares.

    Cons

Unless you're a buddy, you'll go nowhere. So many people could be doing so much more for you if managed better. They brought in a consultant who was a joke. Spent 2-3 hour lunches drinking with his work buddies and the younger women. He's never delivered on anything except cocktail hour.

    Advice to Management

Give more people besides friends and young girls a chance. Give promotions based on merit and being qualified. Make buddies and young girls actually do work.

    Pros

Great benefits, flexibility with hours and work schedule. Managers provide guidance & training. Well established long standing company. Located in Skokie.

    Cons

Lack of communication from upper management. Communication between departments also lacking. Very traditional work culture, in a very competitive industry.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with employees, hold individuals, including management accountable for delivery. Hold down to long term goal and not bend over backwards for every client.

I worked at Hallmark Data Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The company is undergoing a massive transition. As a result, there are a lot of opportunities of new positions that are technology centered
    - Managers do not micromanage the employees
    - Opportunities for training and professional growth
    - Option to work from home once a week after 1 year
    - Hard working coworkers

    Cons

    - Lack of mentorship program
    - "Too many chiefs, not enough Indians"
    - Large learning curve. About 18 months to fully learn the system

    Advice to Management

Learn to show more appreciation for your employees. Hire more employees to support your current CRMs.

    Pros

They currently invest heavily in training of staff

    Cons

They should increase the pay of their employees.

I worked at Hallmark Data Systems full-time

    Pros

Originally it was a family owned business. Everyone was friendly and worked as a team to get things done. Most employees were there 10+ years. So everyone was pretty familiar and treated each other like family for the most part. You can be promoted once you show the initiative to learn or do more. Was always known for great customer service to our clients. Great benefits and profit sharing.

    Cons

Bought out by a large company that really is not for the employees. Was given double the work with no pay raise. Was also given a pay cut and no raise in the last 7 years. No longer a friendly environment.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at your employees and the moral of the company. If the employees are not happy then your clients will suffer.

I have been working at Hallmark Data Systems full-time

    Pros

    - Freedom to grow. You can start on the bottom and one day end up leading Hallmark.
    - Management is very considerate of personal life
    - Ability to learn and try anything you can as long as you make sure required work is done
    - Location was recently renovated and it feels great; new hardware, furniture, meeting areas (and available to all employees, not just management)

    Cons

Small company, therefore you might be the only expert in a specific field (better know your stuff!)

I have been working at Hallmark Data Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hallmark Data Systems is going through a paradigm shift. What used to be just a subscription fulfillment company is now branching out to include a marketing database, email marketing and an easy-to-use form builder. In the past two years upper management has made it a point to grow Hallmark out to keep up with the times and to deliver state of the art solutions to integrate with the subscription fulfillment base. Senior management is involved with the teams and their doors are always open. As a younger employee it's been great to know that I have the ear and support of high-level members.

Since the products are continually being built out, employees are encouraged to be innovative and strategically minded. There is a good mix of employees who have been with Hallmark for over 10 years, as well as newer employees who bring a different background to the table. Most of the time it allows for creative thinking focused around the client.

Hallmark promotes a good work/life balance. The vacation and personal time is generous, and regular hours are observed. Many employees work more than 40 hours a week, but it's not frowned upon if you don't work 60.

    Cons

The office is unfortunately not in the city, making it difficult for public transport and the office was converted from a warehouse, so it's not the most inspiring work space. Some employees who are more tenured are less eager about changes made to the company. The culture at Hallmark is a little vague.

    Advice to Management

Continue to stay involved with the teams and reward employees based on merit.
