I have been working at Heliae Development full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great Company to work for. Friendly environment. Growth, change, and upward momentum. This company has helped develop my professional business skills as well as my personal life skills because of the constant challenge to raise the bar and complete or produce projects or products.

    Cons

Not too many down sides. Can be some long days but not too often.

    Advice to Management

Don't loose focus on the goal. We are so close.

I worked at Heliae Development full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Financial support from investors (previous years) Creative research environment with new equipment and labs Bonuses were easy to obtain for salaried employees Ideas could come from any employee and were often explored and tested

    Cons

Current CEO Business model/strategy/market is constantly shifting and poorly planned Employees lost motivation years ago and many were coasting Many layoffs and reductions Don't expect a 401K match

    Advice to Management

    Put employees first

I have been working at Heliae Development full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I've seen some major changes in Heliae within the last year. One of the best was changing to a CEO who has a vision of the future and is excited about what is happening in the present. The upper management is now united and following a path that seems to be leading us to success. All associates seem to be feeling the work environment changing for the better. The associates at Heliae are a family working together...

    Cons

We seem to be short staffed at times for some of the work that needs to be done but we always seem to make it through the rough times unscathed. Only because of the cooperation between departments in resent times.

    Advice to Management

Use the past as a learning tool but always keep moving forward, take care of your employees and they will take care of you.

I worked at Heliae Development full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great opportunities to acquire and develop new skills for career advancement. Associates be they full term, contract, or interns are treated with equal respect and deference. Frequent company events build strength, unity, and comeraderies among associates.

    Cons

There seems to be decreasing interest in community support.

    Advice to Management

While it is beneficial to consider the overall goal of company, it is really helpful if they also consider the team's suggestions. Much disatisfaction appear to come from management who doesn't listen or care what their team thinks.

I worked at Heliae Development part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You get to work with Algae

    Cons

Here are some adjectives that describe upper management and the C level staff: Manipulative, Vindictive, Narcissistic, Micromanagement, incompetent. If you want to work with people like that then have fun!

    Advice to Management

No advice will be given because none will be taken.

I worked at Heliae Development full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They encourage cross-training, most shifts are M-F (8-5). They offer a decent benefit package BUT they tie 401k matching to unattainable company performance. They used to have a good atmosphere where the company held several events for employees but that's gone.

    Cons

The company is not stable. In the time I was there, it grew from 100 employees to almost 200, and then down to approximately 50 through 6 lay-offs, 4 within a year. Salary isn't merit based though they have reviews 2x per year, and reviews are used to determine the next round of lay-offs. Raises are very rare, and only certain people get bonuses. Some employees have unjustifiably high salaries (recent grads, close relations...

    Advice to Management

Most managers know that it's less costly to retain employees instead of constantly hiring, training, and laying-off. There's a constant stream of new employees which creates an uneasy environment and doesn't make for a productive work place. Managers should receive mandatory training so they're aware that being a manager doesn't mean that one should be glued to their desk playing on their phones. Heliae has is engineer...

I worked at Heliae Development full-time

    Pros

Eventhough I was let go, the company provided me resources for updating my resume and for finding a new job. They offered support during that time and provided me a severance package for the hard work and years I put into the company.

    Cons

It is a younger, smaller company and there can be struggles and challenges associated with young companies.

    Pros

    - There are a lot of good people to work with - The company does try create a good work environment - It is a good job to start out at and get experience from

    Cons

-It is very unclear how the company determines giving raises to employees -Working hard does not mean you will get a good raise or move up in any way, you may just stay at the same position doing the same thing for multiple years. - After receiving experience, you are not paid for the experience you have with the company and if you need to be paid more good luck asking for a raise, many people have left the company...

    Advice to Management

When you see a problem, solve it, period. Do not wait for an invitation to solve a problem that could potentially affect many people. You know what is right and what is wrong. Lastly, re-evaluate whether the company is following their own values, which are the same values they hold their associates to.

I worked at Heliae Development full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    1) New start-up feel, has felt that way since the company has come to existence about 10 years or so ago. 2) Endless funding by big pockets so when the company hasn't been doing well, the company will stick around but layoffs are frequent. 3) Traveled internationally to assist joint venture start up. The start-up in Japan was probably the most exciting thing in my 7 years of being there. 4) Benefits were average.

    Cons

    1) 4 different times associates were laid off in my tenure there. This place is lost without leadership and motivation. The current executives do not know how to make big, important business decisions. 2) The company contradicts almost every core value it has. 3) Dan Simon is unfortunately not the CEO and hasn't been for about 5 years or so. When he was there it seemed better but noticed a change in the moral and...

    Advice to Management

    1) If someone knows how to do their job or make an improvement let them do so. This place screams 'Micro-Management'. There were times where 80% acetic acid was leaking from the same source and fixed repeatedly the same way knowing how likely the issue was to come back. Acetic acid can be very hazardous and especially up to those higher concentrations. These leaks were in places where people preformed daily tasks....
