I worked at Infinity Software Development full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Taught me a ton, basically from scratch. Made sure I was happy and engaged. Weekly board game lunches and weekly company-provided breakfasts were great, too, along with other perks.

    Cons

Some people might not care for Tallahassee's slower pace. If you like it here, I'm not sure you can do better in this field.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the high integrity and compassion. :)

I worked at Infinity Software Development full-time

    Pros

Got to work on some projects as the sole developer which meant a lot of learning on the job. Also meant a lot of client interaction with requirement gathering and managing expectations. This helped a lot in the long run.

    Cons

Management team (managers and upper level) was terrible - they didn't really care about the employees and hardly did any work. Most of the time the developers talked to the client and got requirements and set up tests and deployments. Didn't allow for too much flexibility in schedule. Will start you off way under your requested salary and keep the raises low so beware. There are much better jobs elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Care for your employees and keep the good ones on board by providing training, decent raises, and bonuses.

I worked at Infinity Software Development full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The culture used to be great, with many smart, motivated people working there. Over time, the company values shifted, and now management seems to value profit and the appearance of success over actual results or employee satisfaction.

If you are looking to get experience as a junior developer, this may be a good start for you, but don't expect much in the way of training or professional development on the job.

    Cons

Management places more value in expensive facilities remodeling than investing back into employees or promoting good business practices

In addition, as other reviews have mentioned, management has created a hostile environment that includes heavy-handed legal pursuit of non-compete agreements against former employees without cause and an extremely subjective approach to promotions and raises that favors friends of the owner over those with experience and credentials.

    Advice to Management

Bring in an outside consultant to evaluate your management practices and begin implementing more concrete and structured frameworks for evaluation of employees for raises and promotions. Begin to place an emphasis on the quality of work and quality of service you are providing your clients - and less emphasis on how cool your facilities look.

    Pros

There are some great people who work at Infinity. I've been in the industry for many years and there are a ton of great folks here.

    Cons

Infinity has been around for a long time and yet they still can't figure out how to manage a project. Upper management has no idea what they're doing, and frankly it's remarkable they've stayed around this long. I've also witnessed a pattern of poor treatment of employees over my last several years at Infinity. The company has invested tens of thousands of dollars in the last year in improvements to the building such as new windows, flooring, furniture, etc., and yet they refuse to pay competitive salaries, and are shocked when people leave for better positions.

    "Great Coworkers, Bad Management"

    Pros

    - The analysts and developers that I worked with all were great people who are pretty entertaining to be around.
    - The performance review process is a monthly process and is employee driven.
    - You get benefits

    Cons

    - The upper management wields the very vaguely worded non compete agreement as a weapon. It is used to ensure that people do not leave. Just check out the Leon County Court records for more on that. I would also highly encourage you to ask around town about their non compete if you'ore considering working for Infinity.
    - Frequent mismanagement of projects often results in long hours for team members. That might be ok if you saw anything for it, except positions are salaried and there are rarely rewards for such overtime except for the occasional meal and a pat on the back.
    - Low starting salaries.
    - The benefits are expensive and aren't that great as far as coverage and retirement matching percentage.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of your non compete and stop suing clients and former employees.

I worked at Infinity Software Development full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic company to work for. Culture is very employee-oriented and supportive. Can work in many different areas and with many different technologies. One of the best employers in town.

    Cons

Projects primarily involve business process implementations which can be less attractive to developers looking for out-of-the ordinary project opportunities. However, recent expansion into the private sector have mitigated this concern.

    Advice to Management

Step van to deliver projects when complete :-).

I worked at Infinity Software Development (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Eighteen years in as a software developer, I can say without reservation that Infinity (ISD) is the best place I've ever worked. If a once in a lifetime career opportunity hadn't arisen, I would still be there; probably forever.

Leaving that last day hurt as though I was leaving my family.

Some of the bulletpoint pros are:
    -Great office
    -Good salary
    -Great benefits
-Management sincerely cares about the workers
-Quarterly meetings where we discussed the direction of the business and could ask _any_ questions or raise any topic.
    -Financially sound firm
-Smart business guys doing the business-ing
    -Great development methodology
-The business process analysts are jaw-droppingly good. Their work makes the programmers' jobs way easier.
    -Stable, steady work
-They literally _will_ _not_ let you work crazy amounts of hours. They mean it when they stress a healthy life/work balance
-The culture is accepting of, and comfortable for workers of all ages, from newly minted devs to crusty old guys who cut their teeth on mainframes.

    Cons

There really aren't any. It's a job, so there will be some tedious bits and some hard work as there are on any job, but that's why they are paying you money, right?

    Advice to Management

Just keep doing what you're doing. The quarterlies are particularly useful, informative and enjoyable. These extra words here are to make the twenty word minimum.

    Pros

    - Company culture is seriously fantastic and makes work feel like much less of a chore. Projects are varied and help you gain much more skill in your professional field.
    - Management supports you 100% if you want to try a different role to see if the work suits you.
    - Great benefits

    Cons

    - Structure of management make it difficult to 'move up' in a role, as there aren't really any 'lead' developers. Roles switch out according to different projects which is fine, even great, internally but the lack of movement forward may not look great on paper if you've been here for several years.

    Advice to Management

Consider current advancement/rewards system for longtime employees and revise. If no position can be moved into, the pay increase should be more substantial.

    Pros

Management takes every opportunity to invest in employees for long term employment. Due to this and its great workplace culture, the turnover rate at Infinity is far below the industry standard. There's a diverse crowd of employees with who contribute equally varied interests and experiences to the group, so there's something here for everyone. Infinity is active in the community and plans events to promote employee interaction. Combine this with fulfilling work and a reasonable balance of work and home life, and Infinity is a great place to work.

    Cons

    - Project managment and structure can be inconsistent
    - At times, senior management can feel removed from day to day operation

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your employees

    Pros

Infinity sets the bar when it comes to workplace culture. Although this is my first internship, Infinity exceeds my expectations in terms of employee development and team collaboration. Each member of the Infinity family makes effort to help each other, which optimizes each department's operations. Infinity makes waking up in the morning for work a little bit easier.

    -Diverse team members
    -Workplace Culture
    -Traditions
    -Career Development

    Cons

Can get sidetracked due to hilarious conversations.
