I have been working at Interdesign full-time

    Pros

Interdesign is a pretty nice place to work. I've worked in the corporate office for about a year and I really like the policies and my fellow employees. My managers are very easy to work with and there is plenty of room for growth. I really like that they care about my development in the company.

    Cons

Communication between the teams is sometimes not the greatest and the work is very easy which leads to boredom sometimes.

I worked at Interdesign full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, profit sharing, work location, team atmosphere.

    Cons

Top management is not part of the team. They are driven by the numbers and make all decisions based on a 60 point profit margin. Loyalty, achievement and tenure mean little. The attitude is you can be replaced in a heartbeat.

    Advice to Management

Set up job descriptions and wage ranges. Have an organization chart that means something. Set goals for employees and managers, understand what they are doing, have face to face reviews and compensate those who meet company goals. Others who do not should be put on a "PIP" (personal improvement program). If they cannot contribute they should be advised to find other opportunities.

Stop running the company like a mom and pop store.

I worked at Interdesign full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company is extremely profitable. Great profit sharing plan (8%) and 401(k) safe harbor (3%). Most employees are very friendly. Excellent health insurance plan, but a bit pricy for those that have to contribute (non-exempt). Jobs are posted internally first.

Note that this review is for InterDesign, Inc. of Solon, OH, not the architectural firm in Indiana. The ratings incorrectly ask for a rating of CEO Phil Howard, who is the founder and CEO of the architectural firm in Indiana.

    Cons

HR department is arrogant and non-responsive. There are no salary ranges for each position, so many inequities exist. Upper management is out of touch with rank and file. Owner is largely absentee resulting in a huge leadership void on a day-to-day basis and many fiefdoms. Currently searching for a new president and culture may change. Computer systems are patched together and no training is provided. Much turnover of newer employees who cannot deal with the "culture."

    Advice to Management

Give the HR department a complete overhaul with new personnel. Hopefully, with the retirement of the person in charge of the computer systems, a new person will implement an overall organizational plan.

I worked at Interdesign full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

None. No pros to this position. No pros to this department. None. Do not apply here. Not worth anyone's time.

    Cons

NOT A DESIGN POSITION. DO NOT APPLY. DO NOT WORK IN THIS DEPARTMENT. RUN FAR AWAY. There is no actual skill involved at all. This position creates barcodes. This position involves you spray gluing posters to a poster board and cutting out around the die-lines.

Additionally I had the pleasure of stapling pages together for 300 booklets.

I have never been more fooled or disappointed in my entire life. No design knowledge needed. Basically if you have hands and you know how to use an exacto knife you're more than qualified, in fact you're over qualified. I was deceived by this job posting and I don't want anyone else to go through the same thing.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to word your job positions and posting correctly. Had I known I would be cutting out poster board, I would have passed on the job. What a joke.

I worked at Interdesign full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I liked the fast pace of the job also the company gives away free merchandise at end of monthl..

    Cons

The company policy for missing work was unbearable. You accumulated points missing work even if you had a potentially fatal situation.

    Advice to Management

Advocate for employees to be more flexible with unforeseen emergencies that could lead to termination.

    Pros

I liked the people I worked with. The benefits were good. Merchandise giveaways.

    Cons

Pay a little low. Departments were 'clique-y' and not eager to help one another.

    Advice to Management

    Owner's decision making is questionable.
