    I worked at Kipling full-time

    Pros

Great product which keeps on trend, some fantastic people, potential for a meaningful team experience. Good program for learning selling techniques. With a competent manager at the helm, this can be a pleasant, fun and motivating job.

    Cons

Lots of politics in play. Employees get positions of responsibility based on who they know and not on their ability to do the job competently. This results in management by lazy employees with a weak work ethic. This has a detrimental effect on the team, who need focused, motivating leadership. Unequal division of labor among associates.

    Advice to Management

Need for managers to have some formal training in managing a team of people effectively. Need for more defined areas of responsibility for the management positions. Some worked extremely hard, others leaned against the cash wrap counter most of the time!

I have been working at Kipling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very easy job, mostly stand around and sell. The pay is a little low for the industry but you really get paid for standing in one spot so it's a win-win! I just clock in and clock out. I don't give any more than that!

    Cons

The upper management ( HR, DMs, Benefits , Payroll) are all completely incompetent! I really wonder how they got thier jobs in the first place. This company is constantly losing money because of dumb marketing decisions-absolutely no accountability at all!

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your team like idiots and allow them to do want you hired them to do.

    Pros

Easy Job, Great Associate Discount and Incentives.

    Cons

Black out dates for retail stores, while cooperate office closed during Winter Holidays, Scheduled Floor Set changes too many times, not getting visual plan till the day of floor set and visual props not arriving on time.
Store manager must be consistent holding the team accountability.

    Advice to Management

Marketing and Visual department need to get their act together!

    Pros

Fast paced environment with friendly management. Ample opportunity to move up within the company.

    Cons

Like most retail hours depended on sales and during the slow months expect to be dropped to under 10 hours in most cases.

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide employees with positive feedback. Encourage team growth and foster a positive work environment so that employees are excited to represent a reputable brand like Kipling.

I have been working at Kipling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Team at the stores. They become a family. At least you get support from them. You can be creative in the recognition you give to your team.

    Cons

No correct promotions and product. Some items are too pricey from what the customer really are looking for. The comunication between customer feedback to corporate gets lost due to a Distrit Manager who hide the reality and instead just say ehat others want to hear not the truth. The % of turnover is not important in this company. They don't care about the people.

    Advice to Management

Too much micromagnament. Listen what your team has to say about stores. District Manager goes store to store to train the Store Manager of what to say and how when they receive a Senior Corporate visit. They like you one day and if you say what you think its the end of your career.

    Pros

reasonable working hours. some people are nice.

    Cons

terrible management. no one can make a decision regarding product. no one can stick to a plan. departments do not operate in teams. they are quick to blame others and are at each other's throats. lots of random firings/lay offs, and lots of people resigning. not a place to build a career... unless you're lazy, and like to shirk your responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Fire the people who are toxic to the organization.

    Pros

Great product and brand that almost sells itself! Different mix of customers that you get to meet on a daily basis.

    Cons

District and corporate managers are very unorganized. They change sales, policies and procedures at the drop of a hat when in PANIC MODE. Stores are run without any real management.

I have been working at Kipling part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small store, not much to fold or clean and organized. Management is great and so are some of the employees.

    Cons

Sometimes very slow, small space for storage and stock. The store is great, but sometime I feel like they are overstaffed and I get cut a lot.
