I worked at Lane Construction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only pros I found working at Lane are the few good people I met.

    Cons

No support if there is a problem with your supervisor. To many chiefs not enough Indians. Not necessary to have middle management. Trim the fat! Employ supervisors that know how to treat people with respect. The supervisor I worked under in the corporate office had terrible management skills if any. Treated her team like garbage, had her favorites and treated everyone else like crap in her department. She lied constantly and got away with it. Everyday I came to work with a knot in my stomach. None of the supervisors or managers have any of the values or integrity the company brags about. There is no room for advancement at all. The pay isn't that great either. I needed a job to pay my bills that is the only reason I stayed, the day I stopped working there it was like a weight off my shoulders.

    Advice to Management

Trim the fat! Investigate middle management! Eliminate Second level managers and give people the money they deserve. Screen supervisors and make sure they're are qualified to run a department and don't lack all the values Lane is supposed to stand by.

    Pros

1 week of vacation after 90 days.

    Cons

No sick / personal time if you are hourly employee. If you have an appointment or a sick child and need to take time off you will not get paid.
PTO accrues very slowly after 90 days.
Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
How many office managers and assistants does one company need.

    Advice to Management

Review your org. chart, give hourly associates sick/personal time.

I worked at Lane Construction full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company has a decent pay scale, the relaxed dress code is a positive.

    Cons

Upper management is corrupt, the company expresses values including: integrity, care for people and open and honest, however these are not values that are practiced at the management levels. The top management in ME, VA, MA and NC should be investigated. They in no way follow the values that are posted in each office. Loyalty is not valued nor is experience and knowledge. The company does not have any work life balance, and do not properly title or compensate their employees for the work they are performing.

    Advice to Management

Consider the value of employees based on performance rather than title or personal relationships. Employees who perform well and request advancement should be encouraged and assisted. Employees should not be promoted or stay employed based solely on personal relationships.

I have been working at Lane Construction full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, lots of expansion, it's never boring, there are opportunities to learn and international options for travel, having new ownership creates more opportunities

    Cons

Huge disparity between hourly and salaried employees, sexist "old boy's club" mentality, stuck in an ancient era in regards to compensation, management technique, and style, and there's way too much micromanaging. It's 2016, not 1996, and the world no longer works 8-5 exclusively.

    Advice to Management

See Cons. Treat people as you would want to be treated; we're all there to help the company succeed, so let us help and treat us fairly. Start hiring competent managers that recognize and try to promote and retain the talent you already have.

    Pros

Good benefits, vacation time, reasonable hours for the industry, performance reviews twice per year, bonus program, job security, sensitive to employee preferences regarding staying in one metropolitan area vs moving around for opportunity

    Cons

Competitors often provide higher salaries and faster movement into management positions

    Pros

Some opportunity in projects. There aren't a lot of pros only that the company was recently bought out, and may provide some career advancement, but not likely.

    Cons

Stay away from plants. Workers are exploited extreme and layoffs are normal for some. Not a very stable work environment. Dependent on contract work.

    Advice to Management

poor planning and bad communication never improves. Employees are blindly pushed by management that makes decisions that are poorly researched and do not properly provide trained employees to tackle issues with no power to change anything. Management are underqualified to make proper decisions.
