Pros

Benefits and pay are the best things about this place.

Cons

This is by far the worst place I have ever had the misfortune to work. I believe there are some great teams at the foundation, but the product team is not one of them. **DO NOT JOIN the product team!** If you're a product owner, software engineer, or quality engineer you're probably going to join that team. Run, just run. The management doesn't know what they're doing. Their way of motivating you is to threaten termination. It has become clear that Jim Zemlin is responsible for this toxic culture. He needs to be replaced or demoted. If you like late-night unscheduled calls, exclusively vague and negative feedback, a culture of distrust and backbiting, this is the place for you!

Pros

- Working remotely - Some nice people work there - They are making a ton of money, so there’s some stability in that — even though it’s being spent poorly, and the board is nowhere to be seen.

Cons

- CEO lacks maturity; the most fearful CEO I’ve ever worked for. Hates that it’s a remote organization and constantly is looking to “make an example” of someone to inspire fear in other remote employees. - CEO only respects his [white, male] buddies’ opinions; I personally witnessed multiple instances of women — women who actually worked there — whose strategic guidance was being dismissed in favor of the perspectives of outside buddies of the CEO, who clearly lacked the proper vantage points to make those calls. - The attitude is that people are utterly disposable. They are remote; they aren’t real people. They are NPCs. The Linux Foundation knows it has a prestigious name, and uses this to create the sense that everyone is lucky to even be allowed to work there — damaging the professional self-esteem of multiple highly-qualified professionals I worked with, and making it difficult to effect positive change or build useful things (nobody does their best work when they feel low and afraid) - Lack of advancement — can’t promote what you don’t see, of course - Strikingly inconsistent expectations depending on the team — some work 14 hour days, others cancel meetings so they can attend yoga. - Zero leadership accountability. It’s always “someone else’s problem.” Burned through at least 2 COOs. Burned through an enormous amount of money building the same product multiple times. All because of fear, insecurity, etc. I cannot stress enough: no matter how good you think you are, or where you’ve worked, don’t work for this CEO. It’s a waste of your intelligence, passion, and time.

The compensation is decent but the leadership is much to be desired, a handful of good people to work with

Cons

Unrealistic expectations, poor communication, and a bit of a good old boys club.
