I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers make going to work bearable. If you want to gain experience in the field it's a good place to get your foot in the door. There are opportunities to learn if you are willing to push for them. They are always hiring so if you leave you know that you always have a job waiting if you were a decent worker. The benefits aren't bad if you do the extra wellness programs.

    Cons

You'd never get the feeling that we are a health care company providing services that impact people's lives! "Production"is all that matters and all employees hear about. Management is unwilling to listen to suggestions from employees or outright ignore them. If you don't tow the line you get the boot so the mentality is keep quiet and do the work until you get enough experience to leave. Which most do after a year or two. Most supervisors are promoted based on seniority, not on who actually has any proven ability to effectively lead and manage people. Many of whom have never done so and are only doing it for a pay bump. Once you are a supervisor you are untouchable no matter how unprofessional or unapproachable you are. This place is unchanging and unyielding.

    Advice to Management

Quit treating employees like they are disposable. Allow employees to participate in process improvements to feel like they have made a real contribution to bettering the company and they will feel valued. When you have turnover rates at >50% in less than a year under a supervisor investigate that!

I worked at MEDTOX (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a small organization that has a family-like feel within the workplace. The work is challenging and the laboratory support is superb.

    Cons

The company is owned by Lab Corp.

    Advice to Management

Allow MEDTOX veterans to continue steering services and providing the excellent customer service that made it the best of the best.

    Pros

Friendly staff. Convenient location in the metro area.

    Cons

The company is micromanaged by its parent company, LabCorp, who is only focused on doing things as cheaply as possible.

    Advice to Management

Trust your staff to do the right thing.

I worked at MEDTOX (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers. Most are very helpful.

    Cons

Forensic Extraction management is horrific hence the turnover rate being high. Communication is absolutely unprofessional between supervisors and employees. You as a company are only as good as the people who work under you, so listen to them when they have something to say.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees especially those that are hard-working. You may be able to replace a worker but you can't replace a GREAT worker. Supervisors need to take class on how to manage effectively and professionally.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I'm lucky enough to have a great boss and a lot of great co-workers. PLB and pay is not bad. There is a good amount of learning oppurtunities for maintenance and chrom analysis if you work hard.

    Cons

Most lab techs are hired staight out of college. A good chunk of them don't take the job seriously, which makes it very hard for the employees that do. Upper managment treats all employees like high schoolers. Not a lot of respect even for those that work hard. Not a lot of positions to easily move up to. Medical coverage is crap for what you have to pay.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. They would stay longer and work harder, and attract more serious candidates for your lab.

I have been working at MEDTOX (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The employees and direct managers are all easy to work with. There is a high turnover rate which allows employees to gain additional experience and move up the ladder quickly.

    Cons

While employees can move up the ladder quickly, there is not much room to ascend. The company is run, by it's parent LabCorp, at bare-bones operating cost. Many employees are not given given raises earned/promised, and employment contract mistakes (schedules, wage, ect...) are made with many employees.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Job itself is easy, but pay reflects how easy the job is. If you want overtime, you get all the overtime you want.

    Cons

While the work itself is easy, it is extremely repetitive. Good luck getting off work at the scheduled time because overtime is pretty much mandatory every single day. Understaffed because working conditions are pretty bad. Management has no idea how to treat employees. Everything is run inefficiently so that is why you'll never finish on time.

    Advice to Management

Learn to put systems in place to help employees succeed, rather than complain about things that are out of your employees' control. Stop with the mandatory overtime, as that is why everybody is quitting.

I have been working at MEDTOX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company hires new graduates and gives good training for future lab work. The management is great and very understanding.

    Cons

The pay is pretty low. You have to work a lot of overtime. A lot of people come for the experience, and then move on.
