I have been working at MTY Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you are looking for a well-structured and well-organised company where your bosses appreciate and reward your efforts… look no more. MTY is the perfect employer for professional, responsible, hardworking individuals who are interested in growing professionally. The possibilities in this company are endless. I haven’t even talked about the perks, all I will say is that my second week there, I was at a meeting and we were all having ice cream!

    Cons

If you can’t handle a fast paced environment, this place is not for you. For everyone else who likes the action, there are no cons.

    Advice to Management

The managers in my department (accounting) are GOLD!

    Pros

The only reason to work for this company is if you are unemployed and desperate. Even then, use the job as temporary until you find something else

    Cons

Most staff are demoralized. Turnover rate is enormous & constant. Minimal health plan as only benefit: no pension plan, no short term disability, 1 sick day per year, vacation capped at 3 weeks no matter length of service.
Employer does not trust his staff, sees longevity as a liability. Company is constantly looking for ways to lower wages & reduce staff

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with some respect & dignity. If it means anything to you, try to comprehend that a motivated staff will deliver positive results for your company

    Pros

Amazing brands, great people to work with! Smaller company so it's a close knit family which is nice

    Cons

Not enough upper management support. Very strict disciplined work culture

    Pros

Met some great people and lifelong friends.

    Cons

Very little mobility within each brand
    Constant change of brand direction
    Little recognition for hard workers
Huge salary discrepancies within the same role
Very few increases, no bonuses at all
Terrible Benefits - no vision coverage, which is unheard of
10 Days Vacation - 5 days of which are mandatory at Christmas
    Few social events
Christmas holiday party is focused on employee's children - should have 2 separate parties so employees can have a proper holiday party enjoying each others company

    Advice to Management

Advice is for upper management - treat employees as if they're more than just a number. People (customers and franchisees) would respect the company more if there was less of a revolving door and fewer changes. Change/improvement is good but not constant change in direction.

I worked at MTY Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work life balance as there is not much to do except listen to franchisees complain abut te brand.

    Cons

If you want to advance in your career and look performance based compensation then MTY is the last company to work for.

    Advice to Management

Possible because people don't stick around for a long time once they find out the future of their brand and so will you.

I worked at MTY Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They pay on time and provide decent benefits

    Cons

The job of business development coach is essentially delivering legal notices to franchisees to pay their over due bills, deal with franchisees walking away from their businesses and discussions with franchisees about how MTY ruined their lives by taking money from their accounts non stop. I had 6 suicide discussions in 13 months with franchisees. The business model does not work, the goal is to float it to the next buyer who runs into the same issue 6 months down the line. Extensive travel paid from my own pocket, not returned to me for 2 plus months in some cases. Make sure you have big money open on your credit card. Head office was a revolving door with firings happening every month, usually bringing in someone on a lower salary doing more work.

    Advice to Management

Provide company credit cards to you staff or pay expenses in a reasonable amount of time. Paying out of pocket is not reasonable without significant pay raises. Adjust the business model to allow franchisees to make a profit.

I have been working at MTY Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

MTY owns so many qsr brands. Working for one of their brands is very exciting. There are always new projects going on. You get to work with many different departments and learn a lot about this industry. People work very hard in general, and really care about the well being of their brand.

    Cons

Being a publicly traded company, MTY likes to keep their business structure lean. Great for the shareholders, bit tough on the employees. If someone quits, replacement is not always hired. Work can get spread to existing employees. The work load you are presented at the beginning on your job, will most likely scale up significantly within a few months.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that when a manager asks to hire an assistant, that these request be seriously considered. Key employees can tackle bigger projects and bring more savings to the company by focusing their time on what they are very strong at.

I have been working at MTY Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

you get to meet a lot of people. that can be a pro, and it can be negative.

    Cons

where to start? low pay, no health or dental plans, little in the way of bonuses, no opportunities for advancement... you're much better off working for a larger company than for a small franchisee.

    Advice to Management

actually maintaing some sort of food and cleanliness standards across the company and providing real training to owners/staff would improve the company's reputation, but i guess corporate management is too cheap for that.
