I have been working at Maxis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Physical work environment is conducive(office space, meeting rooms, facilities, cafe) etc
    - Strong mix of growing the network to lead in 4G service coverage & the streamlining of products(mainly Consumer market, not so much Enterprise)
    - Good place to perform; given the right leaders/team/dept

    Cons

    - Office/inter-department politics are still rife
    - Salary range is not as competitive as claimed
    - There was a big re-organization in 2013/2014 to flatten the hierarchy with the intention of eliminating the redundant levels of management & also turning the managers into both subject matter experts in their own domains, as well as people managers of their direct reports. As of lately, it seems that this is going backwards again where we have people managers who manage the subject matter experts who then manage different sets of direct reports(basically creating multiple levels of hierarchy all over again)
    - Although the aspirations are to turn the company into a digital one, the sheer amount of systems involved & the number of approvals required per system is too much for simple, recurring, daily tasks
    - Transparency on the direction, decision & reasons that lead to those decisions are not always made clear from top mgmt downwards
    - Career growth is very dependent on the actual work done & who it was with

    Advice to Management

The direction overall that places strong service/network coverage as the key differentiator from the competitors is good. However, sticking to the plan is also key i.e. stop re-creating "virtual" hierarchies all over again.

When key decisions/re-organizations/changes are required to be made, a certain level of transparency should be taken into account when passing the message top-down. It does not need to be the whole truth as it could be sensitive, but it at least has to be a reason which makes sense. People generally are more receptive to whatever change(good or bad) -- given that the reasoning is justifiable.

Lots of opportunities to grow in the company thanks to the company's direction of becoming a digital company.
If you are willing to work hard and smart you have a big chance to impact the company. Especially if you work in the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
And best of all, you can exercise for free every day thanks to their daily fitness classes.

Operates only in Malaysia, so no opportunities to work abroad.

    Advice to Management
