"Great Pipeline. Great Benefits and Perks. Poor and incompetent Senior Leadership."

I worked at Medivation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great pipeline of drugs.
    Free healthy snacks.
Competitive salaries for higher grades positions.
    Easy access to public transportation.
    Flexible hours.
    Telecommute.
    Good benefits.
    Fast hiring.

    Cons

    - Poor senior leadership. Incompetent directors, senior directors and VP who are at their position not by merit but by favor or because they have been with the company for a while. You have very knowledgeable employees reporting to clueless directors and senior directors. What a waste of talent. A lot of those leaders operate in silos. No vision. No knowledge of the industry.
    - The incompetent ones are threatened by the highly qualified ones and push them out of the doors.
    - The acquisition news. The company stability will always be threatened by acquisitions.
    - Small company mentality fostering too much politics.
    - No change management.
    - Turnover. There are no recognition programs in place. No knowledge of talent management and retention. HR role in managing and retaining talents is non-existent.
    - No career development program.
    - Too low salaries for lower level grades.
    - Complete lack of communication.
    - Lack of skip-level communication and management. The voice of the employees is not heard.

    Advice to Management

Retain the best talent you've hired from larger bio-pharma and develop them. Recognize and support high performers. Eliminate the politics. The Clinical Ops org is a mess. If you're going to cut budget, stop the outsourcing madness. HR should intervene and assist employees struggling with the culture by coaching senior management and leadership; otherwise, you will lose some great talents.

    Pros

Brilliant and approcheable CEO. Company is growing but they do a great job keeping us updated on all significant changes. Very strong, passionate and visionary leaders throughout the company.

    Cons

Not a negative but a painful growing pain - The company is growing from small to big so as expected there is a lot of juggling keeping up with the demands of our growth while continuing to build a strong foundation in our standards and processes.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Thank you for being brilliant at what you do, prioritizing keeping your employees motivated and being generous in the benefits offered.
