Great environment for learning and ownership

      Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn and grow professionally. If you take ownership and are dedicated you will be recognized. The people are really great- very smart, helpful and passionate about what they do.

      Cons

There is a lot to do so sometimes it can result in long hours.

      Challenging, Rewarding, Inclusive

      Pros

-Mendix has some of the most intelligent people I have ever had the opportunity to work with. I was shocked to realize how open upper management is to coach and mentor newer employees, even ones that are not in their department whatsoever. You do have to feel comfortable skipping rank or reaching out to people outside of your direct reports to progress; theres nothing that really obstructs you from doing so. -Great talent even at the lowest rungs on the ladder make it difficult to quickly get promoted, but the compensation is much higher than other companies in the area (I believe) which keeps talent in house. -Without a background in software development or a few years of selling platforms to Fortune 2000 IT leadership, it is quite challenging to feel confident with the message. Enablement opportunities are limitless (again, you have to be someone who is good at taking it upon yourself to learn).

      Cons

-Siemens acquisition has caused a bit of shuffle and lack of clarity at times. -Promotion track can be unclear and jump from individual contributor to leadership/more prestigious individual contributor is quite large. However with the rapid growth it's likely to open up more stepping stone roles toward leadership.

Building a foundation in tech sales then moving on

Dec 26, 2020 - Sales Development Representative (SDR) in Boston, MA

      Pros

Great product, great culture, fun start up environment (circa 2019), some of the smartest people I've ever had a chance to work with. Genuinely recommend as someone starting their career in Tech sales to give it a go here! You have direct access to product folks as well as presales/solution engineers, which isn't always the case at larger tech shops. The sales training is great, working with some amazingly talented AE's on both commercial and strategic accounts. The product is challenging but if you can master it here then you'll no doubt be well equipped for your next sales role anywhere!

      Cons

Siemens (parent company) integration is shaky. The path for promotion is/was murky and has since been prolonged to BDR (few months) -> SDR (1 - 2 yr) -> Sr SDR -> (few months) Associate AE -> AE. Like I said it's a great place to start as a BDR/SDR, in fact I can't recommend it enough to start here BUT if you're looking for fast track promotion to AE plan to look else where after 2 years. Strategy is evolving constantly which is a given for a startup so be prepared to next day change at short notice. In addition the in house pay will be below industry standard for AEs promoted internally. Tack on 20%-30% to OTE if you go external after you manage to be a successful as an SDR for 2 yrs +.

Really a great place to work

      Pros

Mendix is a rare example of an organization where everyone works hard to constantly push the boundaries of success. If you like working alongside intelligent and kind people who push you to deliver some of your best work, then you're in the right place. You will have opportunities and are encouraged to work cross-functionally, learning from other departments whenever possible. The leadership team is really genuine and works to make sure that the company's culture remains intact as the business grows. They've done a great job communicating in the wake of Covid. Managers are incredibly supportive of you finding and growing in the areas you are passionate about, making it possible to try working on new projects, teams, etc. The majority of managers I have seen do a great job of advocating for their teams and ensuring that hard work doesn't go unnoticed. As an added bonus, when we're not in the midst of a pandemic everyone is brought together for company kick-off in the Netherlands, which was by far one of my best weeks with the company yet.

      Cons

Not really a big con, but the company is growing quickly so you can expect some changes and movement to see what works.

      Can't Recommend

      Pros

Solid pay, offices were nice, if you needed to travel it was never an issue, and some passionate people.

      Cons

There's a reason many people stay here for ~1yr. Mendix promises to be many things but especially now being owned by Siemens, they can't deliver. With a lack of direction and unclear ownership, it became a toxic, unnecessarily bureaucratic environment very quickly. It's a true shame because many of my coworkers were great people and I came into the role thinking I'd stay and grow for quite a few years. However, leadership is willfully ignorant of the issues above and pressures employees to complete surveys so Mendix can be listed as a "great place to work" when it's not. Certain teams like Sales are a bro-culture, especially in the US.

Impressive how Mendix misses every opportunity. Best Product...below average company...worst leadership

Feb 10, 2021 - Sales Representative in Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Mendix has correctly diagnosed the problem with app development and offers a unique way to solve it. Anyone looking to build better apps, faster, cheaper while including more business users and delivering better apps to happier users...should not hesitate to invest. It's the best low code (AND no-code!!) platform on the market. Period. Mendix truly stands out from the pack by consistently delivering the most modern architecture, constant innovation, advanced mobile capabilities, and anticipates market trends well. It's game changing tech with a forward thinking CIO/dev team and a huge R&D budget. People are finally buying low code, and realizing it's not just about developer speed, so having the best all around product SHOULD be a great opportunity to gain market share...

      Cons

Problem is...there's no clear GTM strategy, no ability to communicate internally, massive indecisiveness led by poor leadership. There is a lack of trust in leadership (who are not strong to begin with), low morale and an exodus of good talent. Leadership can not get out of their own way - to allow a market that is seeking low-code as a solution to their problems - to buy the technology. It is hyper-focused on process instead of focusing on customer journey and making it easy to buy. Mendix can't seem to react fast enough or invest the necessary resources in partner alliances with the big tech giants to distance Mendix from competition (which copies everything they do...but faster). I would seriously caution anyone exploring Mendix for employment. It's run by amateurs, ineffective leaders, and hilariously bad hires. They are very very good at missing opportunities and losing any edge they gain with a culture that is so absolutely toxic that no one hits their potential. Leadership is either blind to it, unable to change, or just don't have what it takes to inspire. Don't believe the glowing reviews (for sales at least)...RUN.
