    Pros

Company has been performing consistently despite lots of changes. Renewed focus on MindManager provides good opportunity for personal growth and earnings

    Cons

The frequency of change over the last couple of years including the merger with Spigit has made it difficult to stick to a message

    Advice to Management

The renewed focus on MindManager is great.

Lots of enthusiasm for MindManager. World leading mindmapping software. Strong marketing leader. Well respected in the industry.

    Cons

Company was looking for direction. Purchased Spigit and promptly missed its quarterly number causing a layoff. Impacted morale and focus. MindManager has since been sold to Corel.

I worked at Mindjet (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice office location on the Embarcadero.

    Cons

This company is poorly managed. The merger with Spigit was a complete diversion from the core business of Mindjet, representing another change in "strategy." They squandered a market leadership position with their desktop mind mapping software. Have taken debt financing to keep the ship afloat. Many folks have left. Run.

    Advice to Management

Sell to a private equity firm... turn the reigns over to folks who know how to run a business.

I worked at Mindjet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great location and a few quality executives. If you support their enterprise product, it is an interesting time to be at a company that is mid-way "across the chasm."

    Cons

A lot of change over the last two years, ranging from acquisition of another company to layoffs & attrition due to the merger, to the installation of several new executives leaves the company without a common culture and vision.

    Advice to Management

Sort out the GTM for both products, instill a common culture, and communicate to employees.

"Should never have left the Larkspur Landing offices."

I worked at Mindjet (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was great back in the day when we knew where we were going, and we felt like a cohesive team in the old Larkspur Landing building. There were some great people there, but the turnover became so severe after we moved to SF, that either we couldn't find talent, or the talent we did find wouldn't stay.

    Cons

Supposedly one of the main ideas in moving to SF was to have a bigger talent pool to draw from. In my eyes it's precisely this supposed talent pool that changed MJ for the worse. Once we moved to San Francisco to the (relatively) gigantic, oversized, underutilized, fancy, over-priced architect-designed space, it all started to fall apart and it was never the same again. They said the move was for the talent pool, but in hindsight, I'd say we moved to the city for money and a prestigious address. Funny thing is we had plenty of talent at the old offices. And if the company was that great, then talent should've been willing to cross the bridge. After we moved, we went through 5 or 6 department heads in under 1 year, and that was just from 3 departments. The whole company vibe changed instantly, it was an overnight phenomenon. Literally. Then we started bringing in outsiders, and then those outsiders started bringing in their own people, and round it went. And the owners sold out at the same time, so that original company motivation and story kind of left with them. And then the people that helped build up MJ from the beginning, all started to leave one by one. The move was back in late '06 I think, so this has been a long process. And judging from other more recent employees who have posted reviews in the last several years, it seems like MJ hasn't been able to find itself since.

    Advice to Management

Take the company back to Larkspur Landing and hire locals. Then quit.

I have been working at Mindjet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Excellent working environment
    - Employee benefits and perks
    - Plenty of intelligent and talented people to work with

    Cons

    - High employee turnover
    - Plenty of uncertainty in the over all business outlook
    - Current work culture lacks a sense of urgency in getting things done

    Advice to Management

It would be beneficial if employees were kept informed about the state of the business and the steps being taken to ensure continued success in the marketplace on a more frequent basis. This would go a long way in building our confidence in the company and its products. Management really needs to be more visible especially from a leadership standpoint.

    Pros

Smart people, good product, loyal customer base

    Cons

No clear direction -- it's changes all the time, NOT a people-first culture, rarely get the truth from senior management, narrow-minded view of product design and marketing, money is tight and it shows,

    Pros

The people, not including most of the c-level management team. The beautifully well-maintained offices in San Francisco. Work life balance for most.

    Cons

Blasé attitude about employee growth and engagement. Poorly managed product. Arrogant, out-of-touch, ego-driven executives. Nonexistent communication. Zero accountability. Most leadership positions are held by men.

    Advice to Management

Be responsible corporate citizens. Accountability is more important than being popular when you're running a business Your employees are your best asset: treat them with respect or face more attrition. Find a winning strategy/trajectory and stick with it.
