I worked at Modea full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart, fun employees. Hard workers. Great pay and culture for business in that area. Good advancement opportunities at the time.

    Cons

Company was struggling to figure out it's direction when I left in 2012, but I think it's got it now that it's spun off it's simulator business.

    Advice to Management

Expand into fields you are not familiar with. There is a whole range of applications the technology and work you've created can help in autonomous vehicles, trucking, aerospace, entertainment.

I worked at Modea part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Laid back atmosphere
    A lot of company functions
For the area, paid reasonably well

    Cons

Never really sure of overall direction the company was taking
A lot of priority placed on teams that weren't pulling in as much revenue
The "work-hard, play-hard" atmosphere swung a little too heavily to the latter
Went with external hires rather than internal promotion

    Advice to Management

Especially for roles requiring any kind of leadership, look within the company rather than trying to always gambling on a new hire. It didn't seem to pay off all that much.

    Cons

Unclear of the 6 month horizon...every 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Focus on securing new clients and painting a clear picture for the employees of what their development and upward mobility looks like

I have been working at Modea part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture, friendly people, this company wants you to learn and grow. DPR is about to spinout into its own company. A lot of growth is happening here.

    Cons

A lot of deadlines, and there are sometimes a lot of distractions. You don't have a boss breathing down your neck, but that also makes it hard to get stuff done.

    Advice to Management

Plan better for difficult times. Give employees a heads-up that things are about to get hairy.

    Pros

free lunch on Fridays. In Blacksburg, great lifestyle town.

    Cons

Lack of a hiring strategy. no real investment in bringing in new clients or staffing appropriately to retain the current stable of clients. A "play favorites" environment where some were untouchable. The co-owners and founders are incompetent, and unwilling to learn. No commitment to quality. No commitment to client service. Wildly overpriced for the value provided.

    Advice to Management

Invest in better hiring and staffing practices. Invest in client relationships. Hire people from outside for critical positions.

    I worked at Modea full-time

    Pros

Open and relaxed atmosphere located in a college town in the mountains. Owner/founder pair is easy to communicate with and encourages innovative thinking. Great place for those seeking a life style opportunity.

    Cons

Struggling to find their mission and develop of comprehensive growth strategy. Although receptive to new ideas the leadership has not learned to accept input from more experienced people.

    Advice to Management

Make a definitive decision about the company vision and mission and then execute a cohesive strategy or not.....
