I have been working at MultiCare Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great group of nurses to work with on the floor. Management tries really hard to help the nurses. I have recommended nurses to work for multicare

    Cons

The floor is very hectic and we don't get meal and breaks like we are suppose too. The union fought very hard for nurses at Tacoma General for latest contract

I have been working at MultiCare Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

MultiCare Health System at large is a decent organization to work for. It offers great health care benefits at affordable costs and is a well known and generally well respected health care system. Behavioral Health in particular, is a challenging but rewarding place to work if you enjoy serving clients with persistent mental illness. If you need clinical experience, it's a great starting place.

    Cons

Behavioral Health in particular has a high incidence of turnover because of the nature of work involved. Unfortunately, in recent months the turnover rate is increased exponentially because of poor management, poor working conditions, and a failed attempt to unionize. The later exposed an incredible divide between not only line-level workers, but also between line-level workers and management.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your office and participate in serving clients! Yes, the high caseloads are not entirely controllable. Yes, managed care is difficult to work with. Yes, maintaining staff is challenging when burnout is inherent to the work involved. But management greatly reduce this by joining the collective. If you want teamwork and unity, participate. Afterall, management models behavior. The work environment is largely a reflection of management.

I worked at MultiCare Health System (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked as a contractor so had some flexibility when needed to take time off. Organized environment with a teamwork mentality.

    Cons

Even though it is a Not for Profit - believe me that is always a misnomer. At times I was micromanaged and not treated like a responsible contractor. I was treated more like an employee. And in fact the positions were eventually made into employee positions and pay was cut in half.

    Advice to Management

Treat contractors with more respect for the job they contracted to do. Listen to the people doing the work as to what patients need. Usually its more time to be heard.

I worked at MultiCare Health System full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

For me, everything was a pro. I loved being a part of Multicare and was grateful to be a part of such an extraordinary Healthcare System. It was a truly wonderful company to work with for and strive to be a great place to work and I hope to work for them again someday...

    Cons

The current CEO is outsourcing anything and everything he possibly can while continuing to expand, grow, and acquire more and more all across Washington state. He is spending a lot of money and resources while eliminating entire departments to outsourcing and negatively affecting dedicated, loyal employees in so many ways while also costing long time employees to lose basically everything they worked so hard for during their time with Multicare.

    Advice to Management

Stop outsourcing departments that have the likely potential to bring about extremely negative, if not almost catastrophic results that will affect the entire system, bring down employee morale, and ultimately affect patient care and patient satisfaction scores. Multicare is such a great place to work and has thousands of dedicated, loyal employees many of which are incredibly grateful to be a part of such an extraordinary Healthcare System. Focus on holding on to employees and departments like that instead of throwing entire departments under the bus without doing everything possible to keep them within Multicare. Thought they would have learned that when they outsourced the IT/IS department and later realized what a ginormous mistake that was...

I worked at MultiCare Health System part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good reputation as a hospital in the area. System gives back to the community. Overall patients (usually) receive good care. CEO seemed to be involved.

    Cons

Understaffed in general, everyone has huge caseload of patients. A lot of staff are unfriendly and cliquey, not welcoming to new comers or staff that don't work frequently.
