    Pros

Solid technology and new leadership has found their stride. Large customer base and happy current customers. Great deployments across all verticals. This company is picking up steam from mismanagement in the past and tech issues have been resolved.

    Cons

Work / Life balance could be better.
Aggressive product dev. timelines sometimes lead to missed goals.

    Advice to Management

Keep striving to invest in your people. Go above and beyond to support education and empower staff alongside driving to close deals. Focus on more that just the current quarter.

    Pros

Good original idea to redefine the storage arena, smart people (not management) who care about what they do, and go well above what's expected of them without being asked.

    Cons

Exec's don't care about the employees, continual rounds of layoffs, blame culture, abusive upper management who seem clueless on how to operate a tech company, zero work life balance, product issues makes it difficult to sell.

    Advice to Management

Your employee's are your assets, stop shouting and treating them so badly. try listening to them.

    Pros

But didn't. There were very smart people at nexenta. The culture wasn't one where everybody was on the same page.

    Cons

The culture was one of fear and intimidation. The product is weak and and riddled with defects.

Executive layer isn't well versed in software and have to believe what they are told by product management and engineering.

Product mgmt, sales and engineering are not on the same page and are pulling in different directions.

    Advice to Management

Pick a sales model and stick to it
Listen to what your employees have to say
Turn into a customer driven requirements product company, and listen to what your customers are saying.
Enable your people to make decisions and hold them accountable
    Be accountable

I worked at Nexenta Systems full-time

    Pros

No pro's unless you hate your family and like traveling and working all the time.

    Cons

To many to list, but the biggest issue is the aggressive and unhelpful management team.

    Advice to Management

As the product is totally unstable and lacking major basic features, don't force sales to sell a bad set of products, force product management and engineering to build a better products.

    Pros

Love the technology and basic concept of what we've been working on for the last 5+ years. We have an opportunity to truly change the storage space.

    Cons

What we do is very difficult. Our founding CEO got off to a great start, but stumbled in 2012. Spent too much, grew too fast...you know the story. We brought in an interim CEO in early 2013 who did a nice job stabilizing the ship, focusing the product line, raising money and bringing our current CEO on board in September 2013. Current CEO has lots of energy, but after three years, it feels like we've spent a lot of money and aren't quite seeing the traction we were hoping for. I truly hope the market hasn't passed us by.

    Advice to Management

Grow the business!!! Faster and with less cash burn!

It's a great opportunity to dive in and make a different at a growing company. Our close-knit team encourages open feedback and empowers us to work hard. Our CEOs passion and drive always makes you want to work harder. We're in this together to learn from our mistakes and be the best company we can be.

    Cons

Of course I'd like the flexibility to be able to work remotely more. This would help my motivation and productivity :)

    Pros

Amazing people; great products and IP; large and supportive customer and partner base; and all around positive energy...the only company I worked for where customers and partners truly want the company to succeed...

    Cons

A painful turn-around story w lots of change, hard work and long hours; not for everyone; most folks like to leave a legacy here; at a place where people would like to solve big tech problems; in a very disruptive company and market segment...still lots of work to do...

    Advice to Management

Keep working hard in communicating goals and success stories...

I have been working at Nexenta Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company went through a lot in 2013. Current management team came in late 2013 / early 2014, focused on upgrading operations and investing in products to disrupt enterprise storage market and go after new emerging cloud native workloads. 2014 was turn-around year.
Solid core product. Exciting roadmap. Great people. Great culture (as of mid 2015). Great business partners. High integrity executive team focused on winning the right way. Inspiring CEO with incredible passion for customers, the products and the team.

    Cons

Though the bulk of it has been accomplished, turning around anything is hard work. Expect long hours. It's a start-up environment in a highly competitive space.

    Advice to Management

Maintain focus on customers and partners. Accelerate investment in new scale out products.
