    Pros

Great company that had the technology but lost focus and vision, did not make the right strategic decisions to survive.

    Cons

The old OPNET was a total brown nose environment. On technical matters, you are expected to defer to higher-ups on the brown-nose chain. "I'm right because I'm the VP"!

    Advice to Management

    Be less arrogant.

I worked at OPNET full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great products that a re nice to haves for an IT company. Some tools are very helpful but are priced where only Fortune 500s can afford them

    Cons

To say that OPNET was a micromanaged company is not strong enough. Spending time in SCM seems more important to management than making sales!

I worked at OPNET full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

OPNET no longer exists. During my limited time there I created relationships with many very talented folks; most of whom have since left.

    Cons

Riverbed is oppressive. It has a typical big company feel and the associated politics.

    Advice to Management

It wouldn't matter; they don't listen. A big thumbs-down to my former manager who has since retired.

    Pros

    A true TCP/IP networking company
    Very innovative products
    Start Up Culture,
Really smart people everywhere in the company
    Everyone works hard
Everyone pitched in during the annual networking conference

    Cons

    Salary was below market average

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities for professional growth through educational/tuition reimbursement opportunities

I worked at OPNET full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very flexible work environment, intelligent colleagues

    Cons

Low on benefits. Personal growth is not guaranteed. You need to be in the right place at the right time to get good promotions.

    Advice to Management

During review cycles, management should try to keep engineers as much happy as the higher management because that is the work horse behind the company success and if they are not motivated enough, it is going to hurt the company success in the long run

I worked at OPNET full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

tons of flexibility, excellent products, respect for your work. Great place to work, best engineers, period. Products that worked and a support team that was very dedicated.

    Cons

too tactical, focus for sales was not strategic. They sold the business, which was unfortunate. Quotas were based on desired goals and not improvement on past performance

    Advice to Management

    shouldn't have sold it!

I worked at OPNET part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people at OPNET are extremely kind and well mannered. The office forms a community that extends far outside of the office. Also, the pay is pretty good and the job is pretty much guaranteed if you meet the qualifications. I think OPNET provides a good opportunity to start a family and settle down in a nice area.

    Cons

If you're trying to advance your career in software, don't work at OPNET. There are few opportunities for promotion because of the relatively slow growth of the company. Also, you'll end up working on a small piece of a giant enterprise package with the intention that you specialize in that area.

    Advice to Management

Try to create opportunities for promotion. The average age of your employees is very high and can discourage younger people from working there.
