I have been working at OptiSolar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company taught employees about unity and what can be done when hard work is being done. When creating a product it is a tactical skill that takes lot of thought and motivation.

    Cons

The solar energy industry is very time consuming and leave limited time for family time.

    Advice to Management

Keep having a great attitude with your employees and great things can only come from that.

    Pros

Great atmosphere, fast paced, enjoyable people. Challenging. Very easy to get motivated.
Working in a start up environment is something that everyone should try at some point. It's extremely exciting and challenging. The facilities group i worked with were talented, worked well as a team, and supported each other.

    Cons

There weren't many downsides. It was a really great company to work for. The only con would be that it was shutdown.

    Advice to Management

The upper upper management struggled to keep the company running. There was no clear vision. Each division (production vs R&D) seemed to have it's own agenda and the cost didn't matter. There was too much reliance on investor money with no real strategy to generate income.

too much work pressure almost all the time
some managers were too burdensome micro-managers
did not pay enough for the work done

    Advice to Management

let employees strike balance betweem work -life
review results, not the nitty-gritty details such as writing style, formating of documents and charts

    Pros

Business model of vertical integration was exciting and opportunities appeared to be plentiful.

    Cons

The company took on too much at one time without demonstrating success in Hayward and did not pay attention to details.

While a high level optimistic vision seemed to be in place, working out the details to achieve the vision was not adequate.

Spent hoards of money but made it difficult to obtain the simple items to run manufacturing.

Did not have the right leadership in key roles, those in place hurt the company.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who know how to deliver equipment which works as intended and take the necessary corrective actions if key milestones are in risk of obtaining.
