Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

Toxic shell of the company it used to be

    Dec 15, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

There's no shortage of problems to be solved I guess

    Cons

    - constantly changing vision and direction to the point of wasting time building momentum in one direction and then needing to pivot without seeing the value of the work recently invested - they acquired so many companies so fast in the last couple of years and none of these separate pieces of tech work well together -high turnover not only from people choosing to leave but from them firing entire teams on multiple occasions -lack of focus on supporting women in taking on and being successful in leadership positions, ask them how many female leaders there are in the org -they're rebranding themselves as Harver (one of the many companies they acquired) and a lot of tenured employees feel this is an attempt to lean into that technology and wash off the mess they created with all the other disparate platforms -spiteful senior leaders have jumped straight to threats of legal action against former employees before even connecting with those people directly to understand relevant context

Love working for this company. Lots of high growth and opportunities for those willing and motivated.

    Pros

This is a place for people who want to work somewhere with purpose, drive, and a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend.

    Cons

This is a high-growth startup and is not for the faint of heart. If you want to grow somewhere fast and contribute to the strategic direction of a company, this place is for you. This is not a place for people “just looking for a paycheck.”

Too Big, Too Fast, Too Bad

    Apr 21, 2021 - Manager
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

My team was great. They give you shoes for Christmas.

    Cons

beholden to the VC dollar. Outmatch acquired several companies back-to-back. The result has been confusion and uncertainty among those employees outside of the inner circle. My teams were subsequently used for knowledge transfer and dismissed. Morale fell exponentially, and the feeling of being left out to dry by the core team was unpalatable. Those in charge refused to give any assurances of jobs during/after acquisition, apparently because they aren't about the people who build the things, just the things.

    Constant churn and burn

    Jul 20, 2021 - Customer Service
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Cool offices and good parties, nice coworkers

    Cons

The company is constantly acquiring new businesses to boost sales numbers, and cutting staff with each one. It feels all about money. Not about what is right for customers. Constant tech changes and no one knows what we are supposed to sell or tell customers.

    Pros

    People work hard, wfh environment

    Cons

All experts on science have quit, complete change in direction to make numbers look good. People that question or disagree get fired or quit and all that is left are followers. So much incompetence.
