I worked at PayJunction full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    * Founders have consciously bootstrapped the company to adhere to the company's mission to "build something that last longer than us"
    * Tremendously efficient use of technology--they run at a fraction of the size of other payment processors (by volume) through their application of technology and a foundation of solid business practices and processes
    * Management makes a conscious effort to create a great workplace environment that encourages work/life balance and career growth
    * Tremendous opportunities to learn a thriving industry. I consider my time there as a real life business school. I learned from technological savvy and shrewd businessmen that created a strong business from the ground up. They gave me the opportunity to touch all aspects of the business, grow my skillset, and try new things.
    * I can't say enough how grateful I am to have worked at PayJunction with great people to build a lasting foundation for their business.

    Cons

    * The company is headquartered in Santa Barbara--must be comfortable with staying in the central coast
    * Management is intentional and deliberate about its growth. They seemingly have no intention to scale to Uber. Must be comfortable with slow, steady growth. Working at PayJunction is a long term play. In entrepreneurial ventures, founders can focus on being rich or being king. The founders have focused on being king. This was done intentionally to ensure the company's culture and mission stays consistent with their original values. Again, this is not a con in the traditional sense but may be for potential employees that are looking for a hyper growth startup.

    Advice to Management

Keep adhering to your strategy of offering a value based product to a commodity based industry while investing in your employees.

I worked at PayJunction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - PayJunction hires great people, high synergy between colleagues
    - Management cares about employees on a personal level and allows for schedule flexibility
    - Small enough company for upper management to be incredibly accessible
    - Good benefits, great 401k Match
    - Updated commission structure for AE's sounds promising
    - Great place for a first sales job, solid environment to learn fundamental skills
    - Those who leave tend to go on to very successful careers
    - Dog friendly

    Cons

    - Base pay is significantly below the norm
    - Commission structure isn't based on any reasonable metrics and will generally be left to chance

    - Company boasts about upward movement from within, but rarely follows up; consistently hiring outside talent
    - Management has little attention to data, and changes rules subjectively without proper explanation
    - Company takes great pride in "company culture," which has faded drastically
    - Management says they want feedback, however instead of accepting criticism and seeking change, they generally put a spin on it and pretend as if everything is okay
    - Everything else aside, Merchant Processing is already one of the worst industries to sell in:
    - Oversaturated market with few features to standout
    - While PayJunction is one of the better ones, there's already such a poor taste from unethical providers it becomes difficult to get your foot in the door
    - Typical prospects are unprofessional, don't offer much intellectual conversation, incredibly unpredictable
    - Parking situation sucks, lack of communication between HQ1 & 2

    Advice to Management

Two of the primary saving graces are the new Director of Sales as well as the current Director of Marketing. Each of them immediately provided positive change and demonstrate a glimpse of hope. Keep taking strides towards resolving these issues or you'll have great deal of trouble retaining quality talent.

Re-emphasize metrics and make more objective managerial decisions.

Follow through on your promises to the team and start offering more upward movement.

While some of this may sound harsh, it's nothing we haven't discussed before and these issues are 100% fixable. There's still quite a few positives to working at PayJunction.

    No regrets, best of luck.

    I worked at PayJunction full-time

    Pros

None, unless you're a huge fan of working with people who don't care.

    Cons

Useless people who could easily replaced by extremely annoying, spammy, and very poorly written bots.
Why would you give these people your money? You could do everything they do in a few minutes and replace them with a script for free. They add no value, and the only reason they get away with it is because their customers don't know any better. I couldn't work like that.

Working with this company devalues your brand, and makes it look like you care as little about your reputation and developers as these people do.

    Advice to Management

    Hire better people. Especially recruiters.

    Pros

The employees at PJ make me enjoy going to work everyday. The management takes great care of their employees. I enjoy going to work everyday because of the culture at this company. Everyone works extremely hard but everyone is friendly and always willing to help. Not to mentioned the catered lunches and stocked snack kitchen! 10/10 would recommend working here. Competitive pay and really feels like a family!

    Cons

I honestly can't think of one!

I have been working at PayJunction full-time

    Pros

    -Friendly work environment
    - Good location
    - Dog-friendly office

    Cons

    - Low salaries with lack of growth potential
    - Recently got rid of Starbucks coffee on Mondays and bagel Wednesdays
    - "Fully stocked kitchen" isn't usually that well-supplied.
    - Parking can be a challenge

    Advice to Management

Perks like free coffee and bagels go a long way in keeping employees happy and satisfied. With most other local tech companies offering these perks (and many more!), it would be wise to keep the food-perks coming before employees start looking elsewhere!
