Former Employee - Keyholder in Chehalis, WA

I worked at Petsense full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Petting animals, great customers, great coworkers

    Cons

Upper management is cold and feels unreachable, not a lot of consideration for the employees in the company. Salaries are low.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employee feedback and actually consider it. And have an education requirement for upper management. Working for an inept, mean-spirited market manger is not desirable.

I have been working at Petsense full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Good work environment -Reasonable scheduling and hours -Benefits for fulltime employees including health insurance and 401k.

    Cons

The health insurance offered looks cheaper than my private policy at a glance, but when you consider having higher deductibles, it wasn't worth me swapping my insurance. Ended up keeping my private which is $400 monthly but has very low deductibles and co-pays. Pay for groomers is nice but is highly variable depending on the speed you work. More dogs = more commissions obviously. Sometimes we get interrupted too...

    Advice to Management

Consider setting up a computerized appointment book. Create an application for groomers to have on their phones. If a store associate books an appointment, the groomer on schedule for that appointment will get a notification to approve the appointment. That way, if we realize there is a possible conflict based on other dogs that may already be booked, we can edit the appointment and call/text the customer the updated...

I have been working at Petsense part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The ability to interact with new people and animals.

    Cons

Almost everything is bad about this job. Management at my location treats me like I’m their child, she yells at me, talks down to me, and curses at me constantly, she and most of corporate are money hungry jerks who don’t care if you are sick, don’t care if you’re injured, don’t care if you don’t get a lunch. They don’t care about you they care about their money. For example. I have family buisness tomorrow, extremely...

    I worked at Petsense full-time

    Pros

Customer relationships, perceived potential to move up, pets

    Cons

Communication is poor, company makes a lot of lip service about values but doesn't provide tools or support to back it meaningfully.

    Advice to Management

Update your equipment if it doesn't serve your customers or employees well, for the love of God. If your cashiers have to apologize multiple times daily fir the registers that's not very WoW service. Fix your systems. Pay Pet Experts, not warm bodies.

I worked at Petsense full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good at first, get to see lots of different pets come in.

    Cons

They lie to you about advancing in the company. Worked there for almost 4 years. Was told I could advance to management but then was told they didn’t have that position open, then offered it to a girl who was there for only 3 weeks. They also have a history of saying employees steal things to get you fired as well. (Happened to me and my former boss) took away our vacation time without a payout on it or giving us much...

    I worked at Petsense part-time

    Pros

Interacting with customers and genuinely building a connection. Pets, of course!

    Cons

I worked at Petsense for over a year and saw so much turnover it was unbelievable. I left myself at one point, but came back and worked for one of the best managers I know that company had ever seen. But the company itself doesn't value its employees, all they want is bodies in a store. On a store manager level, we were great. But when you move up to market managers and regional managers, there was so little care and...

I worked at Petsense full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You get to see lots of animals and help people.

    Cons

You are over worked and under paid! I was there 3 years and only got a .50 cent raise after 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and let the managers you hired do just that...manage. Stop ordering so much product
