I have been working at Phone.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay for Health Benefits, Buy snacks for the whole office, Will purchase whatever you need for disability, hires disabled, Feeds us lunch every Friday.

    Cons

Had position changed more than 3 times this year. They give then they take away. Make job harder. Wants control, not success. Still working on how to set up position, will not take suggestions on what works from people who have lots of experience. Finds ways to make job harder to remove an individual instead of firing them

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees regarding practices, give the tools they need as it is not effective to work without them

    No opinion of CEO

    I worked at Phone.com full-time

    Pros

Friendly people. Slow and steady business growth.

    Cons

High turnover. No career growth options. Constant CYA and Pass the Blame. "We're a Team and we appreciate your long hours and hard work" until "This is just a business decision and we are watching the bottom line". Avoid drawing attention to yourself. High performers are rewarded with heavier workloads and unsustainable expectations. Company lacks consistent leadership. General distrust of upper management.

    Advice to Management

CEO should critically assess the leadership of the company. Rebuild trust from the employees.

    I have been working at Phone.com full-time

    Pros

Phone.com is a fun place to work -- the environment is cool, the people are great. Happy to get some free lunches and breakfasts, also free phone service as an employee! That's cool. Benefits are pretty good for a small company and they try hard to keep every employee happy. There is a lot of work to do, so they are really picky in the hiring process, meaning it can take a long time to get on board. But it's good to be picky about people. Recently hired some good leaders within the organization that are helping the business mature.

    Cons

Location isn't awesome if you live anywhere but Poway.
Lots of remnants of old problems and old conflicts -- the people who caused that stuff are all gone, but some of the scars remain. The business is trying hard to put that stuff behind them and move on. All the new people who come on board bring fresh attitudes with no worries about history. So that stuff is fading to black!

    Advice to Management

Keep the attitudes positive and show that leadership is all on the same page. Lead by example!

I worked at Phone.com (More than a year)

    Pros

Good team with a couple of real top notch executives. Mostly a good company vibe and positive attitude. Benefits were good for a SMB. New management seems to be doing the right things.

    Cons

Slow moving development is holding the company back. Bi-coastal teams don't always work well together.

    Advice to Management

Don't let fear dictate your future. Some hard decisions have to be made (or possibly they already have been).

    Pros

You can make a real difference.
You have the freedom to learn and grow.
Strong leadership with an entrepreneurial background.
    Stable and growing company.
Solid blend of structure and freedom.
Catered lunches and a fully stocked refrigerator with snacks and drinks.

    Cons

Some processes could be better defined and the company sometimes feels a little meeting heavy but not overly so. Two disparate cultures between east and west coast offices.

    Advice to Management

Keep on building! We are growing fast, so don't be afraid to invest in the areas where it's needed most.

    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at Phone.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Snacks and drinks in the kitchen. Catered lunch some Fridays.
    Decent coworkers

    Cons

Management has gone down hill. The company as a whole as gone from team oriented, to stabbing each other in the back to keep HR eyes of you and on someone else.

    Advice to Management

I received a letter 2 months after my last day after quitting staying I was fired for not showing up to work.... pretty sure that's not legal and is unethical.

    2) Open communication - transparency in email town-hall and meetings.
    3) Team is super committed - everyone takes ownership, willing to help and go extra mile.

    Cons

    1) Juggling multiple priorities.
    2) Teams are tacking debt alongside product requests.
    3) Could use better software and systems processess - not much tracking and accountability.

    Advice to Management

    1) Stay focussed on growing business
    2) Understand technical debt
    3) Understand details - what is easy and hard to do
    4) Reward folks who "do" as opposed to "talk".

I have been working at Phone.com full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Passionate CEO, COO and Execs
    - Great culture
    - Company is in a growth phase; transitioning to a mid-sized business
    - Free high quality drinks and snacks, catered lunch on Friday
    - Primary focus is on platform stability and awesome customer service; a winning combination!

    Cons

    - Other reviewers have stated there has been recent attrition. There has indeed been some of that. New hires have been brought in to help grow the company, stabilize the platform, and improve customer service.

    - As with any growing small company in transition, there are bound to be some growing pains. For example, office space is quite limited in the current location in San Diego. Management has been busy scouting out a new location to accomodate the growing staff.

    Advice to Management

Work hard, great things are ahead!
