I have been working at Polaris Management Partners full-time

    Pros

Very prosperous company and people are supportive and friendly. I like it very much

    Cons

It's a private firm so procedures or work schedules may not be well found. Not necessarily has to be cons though.

I worked at Polaris Management Partners full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People were nice and the new office is modern.

    Cons

Poorly managed, not many processes in place for a company this old. The software is inherently bad. If you ever heard of companies that have "no culture" this is pretty close to that. Everyone I talked to were looking to leave.

    Advice to Management

Put in effort to real structure in place. You are making money so I wont get into the quality of the software.

I worked at Polaris Management Partners full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great company events. Awesome resources for the team to continue expanding knowledge and skillset.

    Cons

HR department needs a lot of work and a refresh on moral values. HR never seemed to have any straight forward answers nor the ability to reply in a timely or professional manner. Sometimes resources can seem inaccessible due to lack of knowledge or information about how to acquire them. Company morale is low, people 2-3 people leave the company per month and team is tight knit so it counts. Lots of unknowns.

    Advice to Management

    Take feedback more seriously.

I have been working at Polaris Management Partners full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent learning ground if you are coming straight out of college, lots to learn in the first year. Fast paced with opportunities to interact with clients (assuming you are in a client facing role). Business side(PMP) is a good area to learn about the industry, and the knowledge you will gain here is marketable.

    Cons

The company lacks leadership. Inadequate investment in product development means that customers are buying very poor quality systems. Project & support teams spend endless hours under a lot of pressure, fixing and covering up issues. Employee morale is low, almost everyone that is not a Partner is looking to leave. High stress levels have resulted in degraded interactions/communications between employees.... Not a consulting company, this is more of a low budget software shop with a heavy reliance on offshore development (although this is starting to change - more onshore). There are deep rooted problems on the technology side. Very little of what you learn here is valued outside this company.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the product priorities that will enable better solutions for customers, not those that only sell better.

I worked at Polaris Management Partners full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast paced environment to learn in for new hires and experienced hires have opportunity to train junior resources. The work here teaches individuals how to prioritize time against multiple projects and manage client expectations. Both junior and senior employees and work history diversity brings unique experience to project teams. A majority of your efforts here will be client facing, which will improve... your PM and communication skills. If you follow the process defined by the company, you will be promoted quickly here.

    Cons

It is difficult to completely roll-off a project, making time management tough when you start new projects. Management does not always have oversight into employee initiatives. If you have a problem or a concern, it will be up to you to raise the red flag and go directly to supervisors. Not all employees are onboard with the company value of 'Accountability', which makes you sometimes feel you become 100%... accountable for entire project work streams. The company is still in its growing phase of being able to design and deliver quality software products. Promotion is difficult if you achieve the same results with a different process than what the company suggests to achieve project and team success.

    Advice to Management

If the company wants to make the leap into the 'product' space, invest more into the initiative by hiring more people with a Product background. This will allow these individuals to improve existing processes and mentor junior resources that are eager to learn. Continue to provide opportunity for both business and technology groups to work together on projects. This type of cross pollination provides a platform... for consultants to quickly learn industry knowledge as well as educate teams on the technology used to improve business policy and procedure. There is a good structure in place to allow 'delegation' of work, however the process is not currently sustainable. Recommend that company provide more senior opportunities to grow mid-tier employees professionally while also providing them with set hours to properly transition and mentor junior resources to fill in the responsibilities left behind. Revisit the process on how an employee's value is calculated to the business as well as how an employee determines the value the company provides to them. From this effort, there may be opportunity to improve the compensation and benefits strategy currently in place.
