The Best Job I've Ever Had

Pros

I have been an employee at Pomeroy for about 2 months now and I have to say that this is one of the best jobs I have ever had. Pomeroy offers a work life balance unlike any company I have worked for in the past. Associates are encouraged to utilize the on campus walking trails and fitness center during downtime. Flexible schedules are offered to many departments in which associates are allowed to set hours that work with their lifestyle. Managers are very approachable and down to Earth. Pomeroy also has a deep commitment to giving back to the community. Associates, managers, and C-level executives are incredibly giving in their money and time.

Cons

The benefits package is pretty pricey.

Pros

Decent amount of PTO. Health benefits are good.

Cons

Other than a steady paycheck and a place to go, Monday-Friday, there is no benefit to working here. I have been here a few years. Had no review by management in two years, most likely due to the change from Pomeroy to Getronics back to Pomeroy, which was quite fun/embarrassing explaining that to our customers. No management support when we run into issues and we are told to call them when one arises, but our response is usually, "Well what would you like us to do?" Feeling unsupported, and given very few tools to do our jobs successfully by our client, because our management feels uncomfortable asking. That is wrong. We have no 401K match, and I personally have never received any additions in compensation in all the time I have worked here. When we ask, we get laughed at. With this Corona-virus going around, our management has done nothing except have a conference call telling us to be safe, and use common sense and does not make sure we have the necessary tools to defend ourselves from it, on top of a low hourly rate, that's great. Told to work as much remotely as you can, but we can't get any remote tools or a laptop provided by client to do what we need. It's awful. Once there is a better opportunity, I will have no choice but to go elsewhere. It's sad, because I really love what I do. I just don't like the lack of professionalism from my upper management. They just simply do not care. And they actually laugh at us if we get defensive about it and then tell us, that they can't do anything additional for us. What good are you but only a place holder with a management job title? It's very sad and simply not right. Stay away from this company. There are way better options out there. You just have to look.

Pros

Pomeroy employees - I can't say anything but good things about them! I miss my former co-workers so very much. What a great group of intelligent, hard-working, fun people to work with. I am lucky to maintain many friendships, even though I have moved on. I personally did not see the issues that I experienced as an employee of the IT department in any of the other departments that I was familiar with at Pomeroy. Also, all of my experiences with management outside of IT that I had dealings with were very positive, open and receptive.

Cons

There are some major concerns, IMO, regarding members of the IT management team. I am a seasoned veteran of corporate America, and was actually written up (a first!) at this company for trumped-up charges, such as transposing two letters one time on a communication, which translated to "consistent grammatical errors", etc. It is clear that the new management team wants to get rid of anyone hired prior to them coming on board. The sheer number of employees hired before this regime who have been fired or threatened is astounding. A previous poster who mentioned "drinking the Kool-Aid if you want to keep your job" was spot on. I was actually told by my direct management to "feel free to look for another job", and that they would help me with my resume. Let's just say that I left that very unprofessional offer on the table, and secured another position outside of Pomeroy on my own within a matter of a few weeks.
