Pros

The organization seems to be respected and therefore looks good on your resume.

Cons

There is a deeply nasty atmosphere in this business. Management are, largely speaking, out of their depth and are incapable of executing the changes and strategies which would be required. Their response to this has been to thrash out and blame junior colleagues who are merely following instructions. This often manifests itself as bullying which explains why the sickness and attrition rates in some departments are so appalling. It also explains why all staff feedback surveys show high levels of disengagement.

Thank you for your feedback. After many years of successful growth in the UK and abroad, RICS is in a period of transition as we ensure we have the right structures, culture, and business practices to enable us to deliver our purpose of delivering confidence in the built and natural environment. With the scale and pace of disruption in society, many of our old ways of working absolutely have to change otherwise RICS (and through us, the profession we support and the consumers we protect) will be left behind. We do not shy away from focussing on excellence and evolving our business so that we can achieve our ambitions. Through a high support-high challenge culture, we are helping people transition to new roles and adjust to modern ways of working. We accept that this organisational change can be uncomfortable for some, and the honest answer is that some people have not performed at a satisfactory level and no longer work here, and others have decided they aren’t as excited about our huge plans for the future. We care deeply about our people – especially supporting them in a period of growth and change. We have a zero-tolerance approach towards bullying and harassment and it is vital that all of our employees feel able to voice concerns about any behaviour they don’t think is acceptable. I’d like to connect with you and talk more about your specific situation. Please feel free to contact me at feedback@rics.org Marina Kilcline, Chief People Officer

Poor management and no career opportunities

Pros

Decent benefits. Flexible schedule - most employees are able to work from home 2-3 days a week. Health insurance premiums are 100% covered. New employees start off with three weeks of vacation.

Cons

Organization is poorly managed and is not fiscally stable. During my time there, they were always in the red. Senior managers are kept on even as junior staff leave or are laid off in droves. Decisions are often made on a whim with little consideration to how to successfully implement changes. Salaries are below industry averages, especially in the UK office. There are very few opportunities for advancement. Promotions are not often given based on talent and skill.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re proud that we offer benefits such as a great work life balance and access to private healthcare. We have a three-year business planning cycle, and every year update the plan as necessary to adapt to changes and better position ourselves for success. As part of our performance management process, all employees’ objectives are aligned with our business plan, salaries are reviewed, and we encourage employees to note their desire for secondments and further development which is shared with our People team. Thank you for your contribution to our organisation and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Alistair Milne, Director of People and Corporate Responsibility

Pros

Depending on your role, there's a good work life balance.

Cons

No organization or strategy, employees not empowered or enabled to their jobs and a bunch of chauvinistic men who talk down to the female staff.

Thank you for your feedback and your insights on the work life balance at RICS. Towards the end of last year RICS appointed Lord Michael Bichard to lead an independent review which will provide advice on values, culture and strategy for the leadership team and Governing Council to take forward. We are committed to driving positive change at RICS and we have already taken a number of measures responding to previous feedback and recommendations to help us achieve this. The recommendations and advice will enable us to best support all our staff and the surveying profession in their work to the public advantage.
