I worked at RedMane Technology full-time

    Pros

In general, both the company and your co-workers want you to succeed and will help you do so. Good environment for self-starters and cooperative team members. Management at all levels are available to staff to discuss issues. Work is generally challenging.

    Cons

Diversity in projects could be better - has suffered for a few years due to expansion of a specific area of expertise due to huge market demand. Expect this will balance back out eventually. Clarity and breadth of staff communication - as a small company that has recently grown bigger, it seems there is not an effective "grapevine" for disseminating general info. Also being worked on but not fixed yet.

If you are looking at joining, take the time to get to know some of the players and the atmosphere - its not for everyone (cubicle jockeys, title-seekers, cog looking for a machine).

    Advice to Management

Keep up efforts to diversify projects and technology and improve communications. Don't change the other aspects of the company as you continue to grow.

I worked at RedMane Technology full-time

    Pros

Free pop, free fruit once a week

    Cons

Lies on performance reviews, management is not trustworthy and unprofessional at times, culture of not caring about fairness

    Advice to Management

Only if you're deemed one of the favorites by the executive management, will you succeed at this company. Managers have no authority whatsoever and their every move is dictated by executive mgt. They are not fair in their decision making but only base it on what the favorites want. Mgt yells at you in front of everyone which is VERY unprofessional. It is an extremely flat organization with no room to advance. They prefer keeping incompetent untrained people than qualified loyal professionals. They refuse to get a company credit card like a lot of other companies in America but make you pay for all travel expenses out of your own pocket. They do not believe in training for employees, so a lot of the coding techniques are ancient. The culture is to sit by and let the wrong things go on and on and on.

I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time

    Pros

RedMane is a gem of a company and is a great place to work. It has growth potential both in the public and private sector. Team oriented with training and management that cares.

    Cons

Non-Delivery teams could work better together.

    Advice to Management

Continue to help the company work through needed change while preserving the culture.

I worked at RedMane Technology (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lure candidates with high pay. Interview process is very easy and involves same old pattern and same questions to all candidates. If you know questions in advance you can easily clear the interview.

    Cons

They hire to fire. So they hire excess resources and throw them off when they cant pay.
No projects on hand so you will be on bench for hell lot of time and eventually resign due to boredom or they will through you out. No work culture. All oldies settled up for 15-20 years and keep doing the same old things. No innovation, motivation and appreciation for the work done.

    Advice to Management

Change your attitude. If you are recruiting candidates treat them well. You need to work for them so that they can work for you. Dont just recruit and throw them out.

RedMane is doing some very cool work in R&D. If you have good ideas they give you the space to try them on. Either in a project or in R&D. The project work is interesting and meaningful. Management cares about people. Hours are flexible. Good place to come everyday.

projects starting at the same time as people doesn't always work out

    Advice to Management

I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Care deeply about people. Small company atmosphere. Implement systems that make a real difference to people. Technology focus is becoming a lot more diversified, with some fairly high tech components, including mobility.

    Cons

Until recently they had sold too much work and were not focusing enough on staff training and development. This has turned around in the last year or so and has become a huge focus.

    Advice to Management

Don't grow so fast you stop acting like a small company.

I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are a small company where you will always be a person and never be a number. The company cares more than any previous employer about my well being. That says a lot because I have worked for a lot of small caring companies. Also being a small company there are a lot of opportunities for employees to grow into different technologies or roles on projects.

    Cons

For the past 2 years the company has been growing much faster than it had during its previous 15 years, this has negative impacts for employees. Specifically training and mentoring have been neglected, and also on the HR side the hiring process has become more frustrating. These problems are very high priorities for the company and something that the management is disappointed with itself about.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on training and mentoring improvements. Consider a telecommuting option for Chicago office employees.
