Smaller company doing big things
May 16, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The owners really seem to care about the people and take care of their employees. You feel like you're really a part of the team here. There are all hands meetings at the start of every week where people have visibility into every part of the company, which helps you to feel heard and seen. You also never feel like you're left out to dry. Someone is always willing to lend a hand. Real estate software development requires a lot of knowledge in the subject, so it's really important to have help there.
Cons
As stated in the pros, it's a difficult industry to learn. It's a steep uphill climb, but definitely not impossible.

Great Stability And Experience From A Small Company
Mar 21, 2021 - Software Developer in Lake Oswego, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
No job is perfect. But I can't imagine a better software job than the one I have at Reliance. They are a small niche company with less than 50 employees, but one that is backed behind 20 years of success. One of the up sides to that sort of business is that you get to know just about everyone in the company, and that goes all the way to the top. The owners are very approachable. They are more than capable of seeing you as a person and not just an employee, and will find ways to work with your personal needs. This makes work/life balance pretty great, with some rare exceptions for particularly high priority emergencies, which is always going to happen with high availability software. The development team is not particularly competitive. We're all here to make a good product, and it's to everyone's benefit to see individuals grow and improve, and also to learn from the inevitable mistakes that are made along the way.
Cons
On paper, time off is underwhelming, and holidays are minimal. As a silver lining to this, holidays are usually informally extended by at least half a day. As a smaller company, some departments are literally only one or two people, and that can get frustrating at times when you have needs across departments. Because of our client driven business model, there can be a lot of focus shifting as client needs and demands come through the pipeline.

A Tech Company You Want to Work For
Jan 4, 2021 - Project Manager in Lake Oswego, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have worked for both large (10,000+ employees) and small companies (less than 15 employees), and Reliance is a true gem in the tech industry If you are looking for a company that will value you as an employee, as an individual, and as someone who has things happen outside of work, then Reliance is who you want to work for. The work/life balance is really important to Reliance, and while there are things that happen outside of work hours (we are a tech company, so it's to be expected), they do not expect or demand extra-long days or working on weekends. They will work with you and your schedule. The office (when we're in the office) is a pleasant place to be, and employees are friendly. Snacks are provided, and when there isn't a pandemic there is usually happy hours and holiday pizza parties and potlucks. The work environment is relaxed, and the office is not open space, so you have your own area to personalize/make comfortable.
Cons
- Because of the location of the office, parking can be difficult depending on the time of day you arrive - if you start early, you should have no problems getting a spot, and it is free - Team building events outside of work are few - This is a small company, so the benefits are not as robust as you'd find at larger companies - Again, this is a small company, so career growth is limited, but you will be able to grow your current skill set and learn new things

Always Learning, Always Growing
Jan 21, 2021 - Junior Web Developer in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The team at Reliance knows the learning curve is steep, but honest effort is met with patience and support. New features and improvements are added weekly, but they eat the apple one bite at a time, so you're not crunching code 60hrs a week because, as the business has grown, management has grown the team to support it instead of piling more work on top of the team that's already there. Getting to work with a cracker-jack group of Devs on projects for some of the largest realty companies out there means you're not punching a clock every day just for a check (the salary and benefits are fantastic though) but you're constantly learning something new, growing your skills, and making something thousands of people interact with every day.
Cons
Be ready to struggle for a while learning the product. There are a number of applications with some legacy code to get used to as well as a decent amount of realty jargon to absorb. Once that stops confusing the heck out of you, and you know where things are in the database, you're good to go.

Great work culture
Jan 15, 2021 - Data Specialist in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great company culture, upper management is very caring. Reading through some of the previous reviews makes me feel that Reliance Network is putting in the work to change for the better. I feel like a lot of the older reviews have been read by management and there are pathways in place to grow and adapt proactively. There office building is very nice, and in a good location. There’s always a lot of snacks, which is awesome. Overall I think the team meshes very well, and Reliance Network is a fun, caring, family-like company that is seemingly moving the right direction.
Cons
There is a lot of legacy code, and although the development team is working hard on updating and modernizing a lot - it would be seriously challenging for a new person to come in and fully grasp our systems and implementations without spending a few weeks learning how aspects work in the back-end.

A true family company
Dec 9, 2020 - Director of Development in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I've worked for a lot of companies who say they "are like a family" but Reliance Network has made it their core mission. First off, each employee is treated like a real person. Everyone is recognized regularly for their hard work, as well as their unique personalities that they bring to the team. Secondly, they respect our personal lives outside of work, recognizing that a happy personal life supports a happy work life. I have seen them go the distance in so many ways: Supporting WFH and flexible work hours, extra support for new moms and working parents, limiting requests to work outside of standard 8 hour days, as well as taking the effort to get to know each person individually so that they are familiar with each employee's special circumstances. I've never had a job where I was able to sustain such a reliable work/life balance.
Cons
Any cons I've had over the years have been addressed whenever I brought them to the bosses, so it's hard to list them without a caveat. Conflicts with management: resolved. Requests for upgraded hardware/software: sometimes delayed, but always delivered eventually.

Great Place to Work!
Jan 21, 2021 - Account Manager in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
*Kind, considerate co-workers *Owners make consistent attempts to ensure employees feel appreciated *Positive working environment *Competitive salary *I'm not micro-managed *I have the freedom to do my job as needed while still being supported when questions arise
Cons
*I'm 18 months in and haven't seen much to complain about. The real estate world can be insular and a bit difficult to get a grasp on because the information is very specific, but even that is not an impediment to doing the job and doing it well.

Pleasure to Work Here - Entrepreneurial Atmosphere
Sep 2, 2016 - Business Development Manager in Lake Oswego, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Company Culture Management is ethical, has integrity and inspires and supports employees to be successful. I've found management open to employees' ideas, granting responsibility and ownership for implementing these ideas. This entrepreneurial culture (emerging after two companies joined) inspires innovation in all areas of the company and fosters participation in the success of the company. Ethical Management Team They truly care about employees and clients and put ethics above profit Work/Life Balance Flexibility to work remotely Respect for employees Interesting Work Staying relevant with changing technology means I'm always learning and sharpening skills Teamwork I've seen employees go the extra mile to support their peers and act as a team for the success of clients and the company Benefits They have an excellent package for covering the employee's health benefits
Cons
This is really a Pro but can be seen as a Con - putting clients before profit. The company bends over backwards for clients. I have not seen anywhere else but at Reliance Network the high level of client support and investment in innovation to develop software features to meet clients' needs and requests.
