High Turnover Rate
Nov 17, 2022 - Security Officer in Tysons Corner, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This job is simple, though it may not be the easiest. For what they require you to do, the pay isn't bad, but could be better.
Cons
For a place that requires at least one year of experience, their provided training is redundant - it appears to be more for individuals who are just entering the field. The training that you need to execute the job properly is essentially nonexistent, such as knowing where the closest fire-extinguishers are, where the stairwells are located, knowing which floors are open/secured, knowing what floors and suites offices are located, being able to answer security related questions (that were only provided to us the last couple weeks I was employed). The on-site training you are provided (if you're fortunate) is given to you by an officer that is manning the post/patrolling with the vehicle. However, because their turnover rate is incredibly high, and officers don't seem to last for very long (unless they're already retired and working this job for benefits or whatever their reasons may be), you may never get the opportunity to be properly trained. I ended up having to figure out all the required knowledge on my own. They require you to wear a full suit (provided by the company) which aren't the greatest quality nor fit you properly to which I've had to make a few adjustments. Their buttons and cufflinks for their blazers are also loose, so one wrong move and they'll fall off, and since the company doesn't store any extras on hand, you'll have to wait for a full replacement, which could take anywhere from a week or more. Their boots are not the most comfortable, especially if you're expected to stand for multiple hours. Regarding the pay, the only way to receive a raise is through promotions, so if you're an officer who's been with the company for 5+ years, you're still getting paid the same as an officer that just got hired, and even then, no one aspires to be a supervisor since you get all the heat from the directors if one of the officers aren't doing their job properly, and from what I've heard regarding how they speak to the supervisors, they're not the most understanding. They seek individuals that have former military and/or law-enforcement experience, but their pay isn't enough to respect those currently serving or have served in those fields. I'm surprised their client, which happens to be a pretty big name in the area, hasn't noticed their constant rotation of officers. I was hoping that maybe the people just weren't qualified for the jobs, but after observing and experiencing some personal negativities of my own, I can understand why no one sticks around. After I quit, one of the directors started harassing me via text. Pretty obvious, but even as someone in a high role, professionalism is not a strength for everyone. This place does not build you up for success- rather, they set you up for failure. If you're considering applying for this company as an officer, I would highly reconsider. Maybe a job in their office might suit you better, but if it's anything like their operations, I'd avoid it all together.

It’s an alright company. Definitely worst than the other major companies in the area
Oct 18, 2022 - Security OfficerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The managers and site supervisors are not that bright. So it makes our jobs easier as security guard when our leaders don’t know anything.
Cons
Work life balance, sometimes you wait 15+ days before you get paid. Only paid twice a month. Should be every two weeks but at Sectek, they pay you randomly. Sometimes 15 days, sometimes 18 days. Makes it hard to keep up with bills
