I have been working at SmartSource part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked with SmartSource for several years now and I enjoy everything about our working relationship. More importantly I appreciate the flexibility I am afforded with respect to my work-life balance. Communication has always been very good and I always get responses to my inquiries. Procedural changes are always well-communicated. Project confirmations and work orders are almost always sent as soon as the project is approved. When I do report a missing work order, tech documents, or other info to complete a job, I get immediate response. I appreciate that several times recruiters have gone out of their way to accommodate my schedule and quite frankly I just really enjoy working with the entire SmartSource staff and especially the variety of projects that I get.

    Cons

After all these years the only con I can think of is there isn't enough work in El Paso, TX and surrounding area for them to keep me busy all the time.

    Advice to Management

I like what management is trying to do with the SmartSource portal. It would be great (from my perspective) to get up-to-date information on all assignments, projects, schedules, payroll, etc.

    Pros

Lots of various experiences and interactions with team members. Also independent work available.

    Cons

Some team members don't contribute to the effort. Prefer full-time consistent scheduling.

I have been working at SmartSource part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The staff is professional and helpful. The variety of work keeps it challenging and interesting.

    Cons

Some projects are poorly managed by second party resources. I have gone on assignments where due diligence was poorly done. My experience usually allows me to overcome these but it can be frustrating for the technician and the client.

    Advice to Management

Having projects reviewed by an SME for clarity, completeness and potential points of failure would help.

I have been working at SmartSource part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The ability to work when you want, high profile clients, both short and long term jobs, actual W2 employee, job variety, great documentation for each site

    Cons

Jobs not always available, occasional issues with contacting heads of projects, it's not always clear who is in charge, the site's don't always know what is going on

    Advice to Management

Make sure to spend a bit of extra time clarifying to the teams where to go with issues if contacts aren't available and provide a way to report other techs who may be working outside of scope and/or cutting corners! Take a moment to let the techs know if the client is extremely happy with the work they did.

I worked at SmartSource (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility to accept or decline job sites as your personal schedule dictates.

    Cons

You are blacklisted for defending yourself and your livelihood. After a minor clerical error resulted in my paycheck being shorted, I provided all documentation of the site visit to verify hours worked. Unable to accept responsibility for a simple mistake, the recruiter responded by telling me I was being removed from the project because of my "inability to read and poor attitude". I followed up with her to attempt to resolve the miscommunication amicably, she ignored all of my attempts. I spoke with the director of project recruitment who made the situation right and advised me that direct communication between recruiter and technician is best. I agreed, and still never heard back from the spineless recruiter.. This was following my 9 years of incident-free contract employment. The staff also accidentally CC'd me with a table of the associated expenses. I was paid $20/hr for a job that they billed the client $37/hr for. This is a great staffer to work for if you like receiving 54% payment for doing 100% of the work, otherwise, there are PLENTY of better staffing agencies out there. This was one of multiple times my requests for contact, payment correction, or employment verification were ignored. You're the definition of expendable here.

    Advice to Management

Management seems to have a good handle on how to keep their technicians around. It's a shame they don't hold the recruiters accountable for mistakes and mistreatments like mine that cause these professional rifts.
