I worked at Somnia for less than a year

    Pros

Very entrepreneurial and hands on leadership team creating an environment where all can influence the outcome. Excellent reporting and analytics differentiate this firm and its delivery of anesthesia services.

    Cons

Healthcare is a challenging business but for those with the right experience, healthcare presents a unique opportunity to make a positive difference.

    I worked at Somnia

    Pros

Weekly reimbursement, worksite/client standards conformed to all standards for medical practice and safety. Same level colleagues were supportive and positive. My rep (from another company) did a great job.

    Cons

Marked tendency to treat healthcare professionals as a commodity, and interchangeable cogs. Overall workplace supervisor clearly viewed skilled healthcare professionals as no better than children in need of chastisement; not a supportive work environment from the chief administrator's level, although the other practitioners, doc and CRNA, themselves were remarkably cohesive and supportive. Prime illustration of how culture is a top down situation, and that a bad one destroys morale. Inability to treat healthcare professionals with the respect any human being is due. Lack of professionalism and integrity in its dealings with contractors for availability and notifications. They will leave you hanging and screw you if it suits their purposes; they always want the upper hand. Beware. If this is where anesthesia group practice is headed, we are all in trouble. Practice clearly run by bean counters, only looking out for their best financial interests.

    I worked at Somnia

    Pros

Still has potential but the early lead accomplished a decade ago is progressively and in an accelerating manner eroding

    Cons

As market share and credibility continues to erode, no clear reboot and redesign process in place. Tendency for leadership to not see their own contributions to the downward trend and instead focus on squeezing front line staff harder. Bulk of front line staff demoralized and with no loyalty or identity to Somnia as seen be repetitive and large scale defections of front line staff.

I worked at Somnia for more than 3 years

Stable and steadily growing company on the East and West Coast and in the Midwest with around twenty years of experience in the field. Stable for years leadership. Ethnically very diverse, diverse company. Very correct management. Great company to work for.

    Cons

Sometimes unaware of the ongoing issues at the different hospitals Somnia is covering. There were not other issues. Great company to work for.

I worked at Somnia for more than 8 years

    Pros

in the past innovative and growing company. Had positive solutions to the difficult situation of managing anesthesia care.

    Cons

Upper management progressively detached from front line and as challenges have arisen blame everyone except themselves for issues. Random and non strategic actions and layoffs, becoming unpredictable and focusing on petty issues while the ship with strategic ideas slowly sinks before them.
