I have been working at TDS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not constantly looking over your shoulder. They only have meetings on Monday and some Fridays. Sales Manager is way cool and easy going. Regional Manager is freaking awesome, everyone is a pleasure to work with and a joy to be around. You're constantly working along side the marketing manager who is very fun and such a nice person too.

    Cons

Departments don't talk to each other. Very little training to become better. Salary stays the same year after a year, and needs to go up. Company still uses paper for order taking instead of using technology. Not very many opportunities to move up.

I worked at TDS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good quality training. The training staff is world-wise and current on the marketplace. The ONLY positive aspect of the entire experience.

    Cons

The field management has no clue how to be successful in business-to-business sales. Their expectation was to generate leads through cold calling and door-to-door canvassing. When presented with the ideas of email or direct marketing for lead generation was reject as "not our job." Well, it wasn't anyone else in the company's job either.

    Advice to Management

Invest in generating leads. The revolving door of sales people will continue spinning until you give your people qualified leads to work with.

    Pros

Pay, benefits, culture are all great. Love the people I work with.

    Cons

Can be a little conservative at times, but that probably explains the company stability over the long haul.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. It's a great place to work and make a long-term career.

I have been working at TDS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

TDS has a great culture and everyone is friendly and gets the job done here. The age range of employers ranges between young graduates to those who have been in the Company for over 20 years. The CIO (Kurt Thaus) is a very friendly and he knows the employees names, and very active with what goes on around the Company. Very friendly atmosphere where you get to know everyone. Best customer service at every department you reach out to and I love that about this Company.

    Cons

There has been little growth in career changes that I've seen over the many years I've been at TDS. It's a catch-22 where you do a lot to show you are a team player and take on incoming projects/activities, and get the push back that you are doing too much or that the Company does not have the time/money for you to continue such activity. The call center environment is locked down, and you are chained to your desk. There is no growth after you have become a Technician II unless a Technician III leaves the company or promoted, you might possibly become a III but chances are slim as everyone competes for it.

    Advice to Management

The way success is measured can be improved. The fact that someone is not happy about the Company policy or such and gives your employee a 1 out of 5 star rating scale brings their performance to a low, is low of Management to continue that being a part of success measures over the years. And if you're going to hold employees down to their desks all day, please provide us with decent cordless headsets. It is difficult enough to leave our desks for our few given breaks/lunch to get around to see faces around the office, the least Management could do is take a few minute out of their time to stop by an employee's desks and carry a decent conversation or a personal hello to say the least.
