I worked at Tucows part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is client/employee focused, you could work from home and still make decent salary.

    Cons

It is completely commission based, if you strive hard to develop a disciplined approach to sales you will make it, entry level sales agent will find it difficult to breakeven without much experience in this job.

    Advice to Management

management should consider paying some form of salary/commission and invest in more training for the entry level recruits

I worked at Tucows full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - good access to public transport
    - regular town halls

    Cons

    - get to be promoted only if you fall in the right crowd
    - very toxic workplace, everyone is within a band to hang out with and find a comfortable place for talking behind others, better be lucky enough to fall under a management gang otherwise people make your effort not visible to managers
    - unbelievably unprofessional managers and VPes, the CEO is a nice guy and an exception, there is no plan, road map, one-on-ones, reviews, nothing a
    - no single sign of being part of a team if you want to focus on the work and not the people
    - People slack the work regularly, you know why? because managers do not know what is really going on

    Advice to Management

    leave.

I have been working at Tucows full-time

    Pros

Lovely team members, great vacation policy and free lunches from time to time.

    Cons

    Lazy and gossipy management
False claims of 'room to grow' and advancement when in reality there is no possibility of this
Horrible hours in support and favoritism as to who gets the best shifts
    Overworked and underpaid staff memebers

    Advice to Management

Needs complete restructuring within support, was able to see the holes within my very short stay with Tucows

I have been working at Tucows full-time

    Pros

An occasional free lunch. Good opportunity for career advancement if you fall into the right crowd, but nonexistent otherwise.

    Cons

The interview process is long and drawn out for what the position actually is. Don't believe everything you read in the "Working For Tucows" section on their website. Make no mistake; this is a call centre and the corporate culture is completely different from the rest of the company.

Managers are creepy. Incidents of sexual harassment and improper conduct have been reported. Tyrannical VP overseeing the department seems to be oblivious to this.

This is a company that has gone from a young, internet startup to a $500M multinational corporation without learning anything along the way.

    Advice to Management

    Leave.

    Pros

One of the best places I have ever worked. Great work-life balance, and you have the room to grow and make a difference. You are heard as an employee and respected. The work is interesting, current and face paced. It's growing into several markets exponentially. Salary is great too.

    Cons

The perks are being reworked, currently lacking somewhat.

We're growing fast. Need more developers.

    Pros

free lunch every once in a while i guess is a pro? Laughable when compared to other benefits comparable companies offer.

    Cons

The whole culture in this company is toxic. While the CEO is nice he is completely disconnected with his teams and what is going on. VP is literally a thug and a bully and if he worked anywhere else would have been let go a long time ago. There are no growth opportunities for anyone coming in on the ground floor, middle management positions are offered to literally anyone but come with no real value or continuous learning opportunities. Favoritism and harassment is rampant and HR basically is a tool for the VP or management to further bully individuals.

    Advice to Management

Take a good long look at the bad reviews on here, many of them have something in common identifying your VP as an all around terrible individual.

    Pros

The company is always working to acquire more firms and there is a culture of teamwork among the middle management and lower level employees. The startup culture can be fun at times.

    Cons

The leadership is often distant and negative in feedback. Satellite offices and teams are often ignored. A lot of emotional abuse comes from the top down. Heavy churn rate among support and product teams. Marketing and HR are pretty constant. Sadly their start-up culture means if you work hard and get a good review, more work will be put on you without benefit or stock offerings. Lots of people do 1-2 years until they learn they get better benefits elsewhere. No 401K was offered. -_-

    Advice to Management

Elliot is an active CEO but he isn't hands on with products or teams during new launches. Leading to teams stumbling and leadership and Elliot coming in and yelling. Causing good people to shut down and leave, or just build walls around themselves to protect one's job. He is often thinking about the next best thing and that's good some of the time. But often products are launched without proper guidance from leadership. He and his leadership team seem to let products sink or swim. Without working out kinks and making them better. Leaving the customer to suffer.

I worked at Tucows full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some great people here and the location is charming. Ergonomic workstations and an hour lunch. Starting salary is also very competitive.

    Cons

It's gone corporate and is little more than your average call-centre. Micromanaged to the minute, abstract expectations, unwritten policies and dated resources. Top-heavy work environment with senior team members and management micromanaging to compensate for the lack of validity, necessity, for their positions.

    Advice to Management

Culture death is often masked by increasing corporate bureaucracy. A quote comes to mind "Don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining" - at least be upfront about what you are, not what you were. I imagine things started going downhill after the IPO...I harbour no ill-will, just profound disappointment.

I have been working at Tucows full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The operations teams at Tucows truly care about what they're doing. It's rare that an employee isn't fully invested in what they're working on, and takes it personally when it doesn't succeed or something goes wrong.

    Cons

A company of 500 people that still operates like it was during 1995 with only 50 employees. Either slow down or up the resources. Many of the teams feel stretched and the desire to succeed conflicts heavily with work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Slow down, or start listening to your people. It's easy to make decisions, it's a lot harder for the people behind those decisions to make them a reality.
