    Pros

It can really be a boost to your career. The tech team was really good and you could also find some good people in design and product. If you are lucky and are part of a nice team, it can really be a good experience, but be aware that teams change a lot.

    Cons

Too many divas (specially in design and product). They can't admit they're wrong sometimes and put the blame on everybody else. There are also tech divas, but it's less common.

    Advice to Management

Some of the company well known sentences are not to be proud of. They don't set people in an environment to work positively

    I worked at Tuenti full-time

    Pros

Very talented tech team. Almost everyday you learn new stuff and aspects of the work. Good software quality culture. Code Reviews, Tech Talks, etc

    Cons

A bit too much "follow the leader" direction. Sometimes changing or unclear goals. Unrealistic planning and blurred product definition

    Advice to Management

Avoid knowledge champions, at least 2 employees should be comfortable with every significant code component. Letting just one person to be the owner of a component will make the team too dependant on that person, and that in general is not a good idea.

    I worked at Tuenti full-time

    Pros

Culture based on excellence, not only empty words, but meaningful actions. They place a high bar to be hired, so everyone here is really smart. And it shows. The company encourages peer pressure, so you've got to be ready to accept criticism and being challenged on every decision. But at the same team, the focus is on the team and not the individual, so you can count on your mates to be helpful instead of disruptive. Once you "get it", you can learn a lot from everyone.

There's a lot of freedom for taking your own decisions and managing your own time. Never once have I been asked to work extra hours, or even questioned when I came in late or had to leave early.

Part of the recruiting process is a culture fit test (they get you out for lunch with the full team you're supposed to join), so almost everyone in Tuenti shares interests and a geeky attitude. It's easy to make friends if you like boardgames, foosball, videogames or code challenges.

    Cons

The pay is competitive for Spain, but you could make much more abroad, although the cost of living in Madrid is quite lower than in London, e.g. So it's not as bad as it seems.

The kind of culture in Tuenti is not for everyone. To get something (promotions, raises, interesting assigments) you must first prove you deserve it, and then go for it. This isn't a place for people used to do simply what they're being told. Nor for someone who likes to carve a niche for himself and become a prized specialist. Everyone in the company is expected to contribute to make it better at all levels. Reorganizations and role changes are quite frequent. Feedback is asked, and expected, from everyone.

    Advice to Management

Don't give leading roles to people just because their technical skills are exceptional. A good boss needs to make his team better.

I worked at Tuenti full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

In Spain, Tuenti is probably one of the best companies to work in if you are an engineer. There you'll be able to face some great technical challenges and grow as a professional. Salaries are also good and both the top management and the product team is getting better, after changing its CEO and its Head of Product.

    Cons

Being bought by Telefonica has imposed a change of character and focus in the company, although it has given it the resources it needs to grow.

    Advice to Management

You hire the best professionals around -trust them. Don't lean just on the opinion of the top management or the Product team, but be open to feedback from your users and your engineers.

I worked at Tuenti full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good salary
    Great office
    Good perks

The office has a great location - right in Madrid's city center

    Cons

It used to be a great company to work for, but the latest changes in top management (specially CTO) made lot of people leave the company (as well as lots of people getting fired: ie the whole QA department at once).

The Tech side is now on maintenance mode, and it has moved from an internet company to a Telco one (which its pros and cons).

Horrible decisions were made from a technical point of view as well as product ones.

It is a company full of HiPPOs now.

    Advice to Management

Trust more experienced people than you, who are already in the company.
